I stopped my shots in September. I had symptoms and every time I would call the neuro's office, his assistant would just tell me "it's not a flare, it's just the MS". Then she would want to throw another pill at me that would make me sicker. I finally had enough and stopped the shots. I saw a holistic MD who put me on a paleo diet (Wahl's type) and I have more energy, the pain is almost non-existent and I don't need all those pills any more either. I didn't tell my neuro. He was shocked to see how good my balance is. This wasn't a quick decision but with my history of many years of MS without a diagnosis and no progression, I think it was the right one for me.

30 years of MS and shots, I called a halt to the shots. My doctor agreed with me that it was just making me sicker! I have good days and bad days, but who doesn't? With or with out injections.

Good luck but I would tell your doctor so that in the future if something happens, he can't say I wasn't informed.

I was really nervous about telling my neuro when I had quit Copaxone after 2 yrs. I was sick of the injections and the tissue damage it was causing on my arms -- even though I was careful not to inject in the same areas -- was so depressing, and to think that's what it did after only 2 yrs!
My neuro was very cool about my decision. He said it's my body and completely my decision, and he could understand why anyone would tire of daily shots ("injection fatigue"). I was surprised by his calm reaction at the time, but I think that's exactly what a doctors should say. They can recommend all they want based on studies and statistics, but we are individuals--not number--and we have every right to treat our bodies as we feel comfortable without anyone, even a highly trained neuro, making us feel bad about our decision.

I just got back from my appointment w/new neurologist & I told him even though Rebif is working for me I can't stand the side effects~flu symptoms~& he suggested Copaxon. So I suggested we talk about a non needle alternative. He was great he went thru all of my possibilities & Tecfidera is what he thinks will be the best choice so if all goes well I will become needle free. I am like you I have been doing some form of needle meds for 15 years & I want a new alternative.

With the 3 choices of oral MS meds today, there is no reason anyone should subject themselves o daily or weekly shots. I started tecfidera about 8 months ago, and it was the the best decision I made about my MS care. Talk to your neuros! Go oral!

My doc is putting me on Tecfidara(sp). I am so excited, now we will see how much I have to pay for this medicine! Thank you for all advice
