I've not had this exact thing happen to me, but I do take Soma, so I wanted to share what I've learned about it.
Taking a whole pill knocks me out too, so when I really need it I take 1/4 or 1/2. Of course it will not work as well in the lower dose, but it does provide some relief and it's easier to push past the sleepiness it causes.
I hope you get to feeling better very soon.

Do you have tiger balm? The Chinese version of Vicks VapoRub smells better, and is a more natural alternative. If you can get someone to rub some in the whole general area (neck, shoulders, upper arms, shoulder blades) and then cover it (keep it warm) I find it helps me a lot!

Tammy
good luck
That is my only solution to a stiff neck. Also a massage if you have that special someone who can give you a massage.
The next thing is I take Baclofen tree times a day. It was designed to help with MS muscle spasms. It doesn't make me sleepy like other muscle relaxers.
Hope this helps!
Hugs
Tammy
