I wonder the same thing,I was a private duty nurse taking care of termial kids in there homes 8-10 hours a night. I can't return not only physcially,but mentially ,most of my little ones have passed.
I loved driving a semi cross country with hubby but he doesn't drive anymore got a better job.So I won't drive by myself.

Sorry to hear about the children in your job - that must be really difficult. Are you still working as a nurse?
I find sometimes its hard to conjure up energy to do things. Even vacuuming feels like too much and yet one needs to make money and stay healthy. Perhaps the only thing to do is carry on and do our best.

I think finding a purpose and a career is important. Things change. Although I walk less now, my fatigue is less. I pushed through the fatigue for years. Taking care of your health should be first, but for me personally, I need to do something that brings me joy and contribute to something. It may mean redefining your career choice to something that better meets your current health.
I support others regardless if they choose to keep working. We are all different. I was up front upon my diagnosis and as I needed accommodations, I let my employer know. I am blessed to have an administration who works with me, restructured my job, changed hours, and allows me to use my scooter. For me being open and up front has been a good thing. Many are not so lucky. I wish you well. I say do what you can until you can't. Who knows what doors will open

Thanks Kelly for your supportive advice. I think you're right. I think I should at least give things a try. I would like to contribute and be helpful. I will just have to do it to the best of my ability.

Yes, I am less fatigued these days. I think using a scooter, reducing emotional stress, diet, and a husband who helps with just about everything has made a difference. Two years ago I was struggling to teach P.E. full time and walk everywhere. I swallowed my pride and asked for help. It was hard. I reduced my hours and my employer restructured a job to accommodate the changes. I am blessed to be sure! i think the most important thing that contributes, besides my faith, is working on emotional stress. When I lived in fear and spent time worrying it would drain me so. I learned to let things go, enjoy life more, and ask for help. Good luck and let me know how things work out.

That's great to hear Kelly! I am glad that the changes you have made have are making a difference in how you feel. I am definitely learning to let go, but it is not always easy. Wonderful also that those around you have been so supportive. I am still afraid to tell people for fear of being rejected, but it is getting more and more difficult to hide. I had a career in chemistry years back now. I worked in the labs for 17 years. I had my major attack in 08 and I could no longer handle the fumes from the organic sovents that were core to my job duties. I was off of work and won disability because I won't ever be able to return to the labs. The first few years off were relaxing and I needed that to heal some and get my walk back to somewhat normal, but after a while I was going stir crazy and needed sonething to do and feel consrtuctive. Full time proved too much for me but proved to me that I could handle part time. So I went back to work just part time at a craft and fabric store. that got me back into my hobbies again and really made a difference to lift my depression.

I think we all still need a purpose and a reason to get up in the morning. I hope you can find what you can do too. Does a career have to be full time, why not start out part time and see what you can handle??

Thanks Melanie! Part time is a great idea! just hope i can make it work financially. I know what you mean about waking up with a sense of purpose. I think this is really important. I'm glad to hear you are out working again :).
