Get every copy of every session with your doctor(s)! Does he/she think you should apply for SSDI? If so have them write a letter.
Most people, not all, get turned down the first time. Do NOT let this discourage you.

The second time I hired an attorney. One the courts approve of for settling SSDI cases. They paid the attorney out of what I had coming to me. So I had nothing out of my pocket but time I spent with him and his paralegals on the phone.

One trip to court and it was done! Tiredness comes with this disease.

It is a long process, or atleast mine was. Took about a year and a half. Get a lawyer if you are turned down the first time. You can find one that only gets paid if you win your case. Document everything, for yourself and your dr.s. The lawyer will do 90% of the work, but it does sem to take a long time. I was turned down initially and for my appeal but then won it in court, so I had to go the whole route.

Do you take anything for your fatigue? I had used several scripts from my neurologist. I became immune to everything I tried except Ritalin. I had at work ,a 2nd grade teacher, only known Ritalin to help with ADD & ADHD. I have been taking it for 4 years, and it still works well.

If you are going to apply for SSD, SSDI is automatically sent in. You should certainly use a lawyer that specializes in SSD. I applied with a law firm. in Oct. & was accepted in Nov.

Find an attorney that only charges if the case is denied. Then a
%tage of my back pay was used for the attorney. Since I got accepted immediately, there was no back pay & I owed nothing.

Now that I am not working, I find myself more tired. Sure I was tired at work, but I had to push myself to keep going. But now that I am at home, I don't push myself and sleep & rest often.

Amy you will receive back pay as long as you applied for your appeal in the time frame they ask. It will go back to the date you originally applied.
Lawyers can only take a % of your back pay up to a certain amount. Most SS lawyers will only take the case if you have been turned down once, because then there will be back pay and they can get theirs. My lawyer got like 5,000 or so of my back pay but was worth every penny.

My neuro doc backed me up; I also tk one of the neuropyschologist tests and that helped tremendusly. Follow up on everything because that helps. Plus, it is easier if you are 50 and older. Good luck.

Thank you for all your advice! Very helpful! I have just started taking Ritalin, which does help some of the mind fog, but the fatigue of my body it does not really help much. I have a little bit of acomplicated case because I have both Rheumatoid arthritis and MS, only one disease at a time can be treated and each comes with horrible fatigue and mind fog. I have not taken any of the biologicals for RA since last fall because of the addition of MS, I am waiting for the delivery of the new MG12 drug to start, but the doctors say it won't help the RA any, that I will most likely be in a flair of one of the other all the time. I mentally am doing good, I have a great husband and family support and a close relationship with Christ, so faith and family ROCKS! I so need as much advice on tackling this SSI thing as I can get....so keep it coming if you have anything to add I would much appreciate!!! Love to all my MS friends!!!
