Soludmerdrol for treatment or to feel better?
carolinagirl123
I just read the solumedrol post and was thinking that the solumedrol was used primarily for current inflammations or an attack. But can it be used as a feel better treatment? I had it before and it didn't do much except one time and i had alot of energy but i did gain weight too. Is is safe t used soluderol every 3 - 4 month? I know someone that does this per her doctors instructions.

Solumedrol should not be used frequently. The over use of steroids can lead to osteoporosis and seriously damage your kidneys. I was told that Solumedrol should be used for flairs not to make you just feel better. It is not safe to put that much steroids into your system. I got the energy too from them but the after effects were horrible. I think you should have your friend speak to her doctor. I was on a high frequency treatment and thank goodness someone told me about the effects and to talk to the docs or change to a doc (which I did) that knew that this was dangerous.

Some people do use "pulse" treatment of steroids. Steroids do have some negative affects though. They weaken bones & teeth an mess with blood sugar. There is a maximum amount of steroids that can be done yearly. Mostly they are people who did not respond to to other MS treatment or are close to SP and just getting an effect from it while it is still has an effect. Previously some doc did a monthly pulse of steroids with a regular MS drug believing that was the most aggressive treatmen & best for MS. I know one woman who did that, for I'm not sure how many years but her doc just stopped it saying she had had too much steroids already & has suggested Tysabri or cyc(sp?) for her.
