Hi,
Just wondering if many others have been dx & had treatment for sleep apnea? I had the test ages ago & finally went to the Dr for results. Turns out that I have this & need the cpap machine.

Hubby was dx recently & has a machine so I tried it for 3 nights & it did make a difference. When I woke up I felt awake & woke up easily, even before l.alarm. I was able to stay awake all day & was moving better that day.
I also was able to stay awake during the day/evening & didnt feel so exhausted.

Hubby had the machine already so that was handy. It makes a big difference to him too. We are hoping to get me a machine soon too.

Would be interested to hear if others have this alongside ms too

My neuro ordered a sleep study due to my fatigue level (even on nuvigil).
Turns out I have it. My oxygen levels go down and I barely enter a REM sleep. I've had a cpap for about 3 months and it helps with the fatigue alot! It's like waking up and feeling ready to tackle anything. It made a big difference for me. I still am on the nuvigil but only need it a few times a week instead of relying on it for all my energy.

The sleep study center has me lug my equipment in every few weeks for evaluation and my settings are changed. The machine has a card in it that they "read" to ensure that I get the best possible nite's rest. Love it!

It did take a lot of getting used to. I tried about 5 different masks before finding one that was comfortable and didn't leak and wake me up.
I am a cpap advocate in a sense now. I sent my hubby for a study and now we have matching cpaps. Lol! I also sent my friends to get checked and over half of them have it. My neuro says that many people have it and don't know.

I had a sleep study too. My results showed I have alpha intrusion and reduced REM and delta sleep.
It took me 4 1/2 hours to get to REM, and then it was reduced.
I go to see the sleep study doctor this week. Not sure what they will do for this?

Thanks for replies. #1 Hubby has a card in his machine so only has to take that to sleep dr for results. it easier. Also dont have to adjusting machine as it is an auto one so set on a range & alters according to what his breathing is doing. This is what I am aiming at getting. Might be worth considering if you can trade in? I know it can be done here.

reply #2 please let us know the outcome of Dr visit. Hope there is help for you that can be managed.

I don't have sleep apnea, but I can appreciate how nice it is to have a good nights sleep.

I do have sleep apnea, however I could never get use to the mask! I ended up stopping several years ago. My new Neuro wanted me to have another sleep study but my insurance had changed and of course the new insurance need not cover the new sleep study. I am about to 'dig out' my CPAP machine and try it again. I am thinking that one of my chihuahuas may have 'taken out' his 'frustrations' on the power cord when he was a puppy (he doesn't do that anymore). Wonder if I can trade in that machine? I will have to check it out.

I have it too! I've had my cpap for about 3 weeks and I still take it off half way through the nite it is super uncomfortable! I have a "trial period" that my insurance company enforces. I have to use it for at least 4 hours per night for at least 30 days out of 90 or else I guess the cpap police come haul it away on me! Weird, I have to "comply" and yet I still have to pay quite a large amount of money to "rent" it from them for this 90 days, after 6 months of paying for the rent I own it.

Dallas, I also have to bring my eqiupment in to my drs office. I asked why and they said the need to evaluate it and make sure my mask fits perfectly. I also have a transmittal antenna thing on mine so my insurance company knows that I am compliant. It's crazy!

I cant believe that in this day of computer technology etc that they get you to take the machine in to be checked, & a transmitter so that they know when you are using it, thats unreal. I have never heard of anything like that at all.
I am looking at getting a nasal mask so it doesnt cover the whole face, hubby has that one & it was fine.
I am not worried about the mask as when I was in hospital I had breathing masks on that covered the whole face & were 100% oxygen so if I coped with that I can cope with what ever I need.

If we rent the machine we dont get that amount off the purchase so it is extra outlay. Our insurance doesnt cover it at all so it is all out of pocket too.
Hopefully I will get a machine soon, have priced them & waiting on salesman to get back to me with a better price for buying 2nd one. He rang today but I didnt get teh call.
I have sure noticed that I am not sleeping well now that I know what good sleeo is,
