I was wondering the same thing myself. Since ms affects the autoimmune system.. wouldnt you think it would be a good idea to get the shot to help fight against the flu that goes around.
I'm thinking I better call my doc and ask... I take a shot a day.. whats one more ?

Hi, all - thanks for the replies. Happened to get a call from my Beta Nurse who said to double check with my doctor. It's probably okay, but definitely not the live virus.

My neuro said to get the flu shot without the live vaccine last year. I didn't get the shot and I didn't get the flu. But if you are the kind of person who tends to get very sick, or sick often, it might be worth it

Yep, my doc said the same thing about the "live" vaccine. She has been saying that it is 50/50 every year for a while, but the whole Swine thing through a new part into it...she told me, "OFF THE RECORD!," she was not getting one until she had to, and that if I got that without the "live," it was maybe not worth it.

I have never gotten one, and never had the flu...of course, now that I have said that outloud, I will probably soon be posting to ask who has a great remedy...LOL.

I worked in healthcare, got one every single year. Never had one problem. My neuro thinks it's well worth it. The last thing we need is the flu and the high fever that comes with it. Whether from the weather, or fever, we don't do well with heat. Having the flu is a stress we don't really want to add to the mix.

As others have said, not the live virus.

I wouldn't worry too much about asking you doc questions. They are more than use to newly diagnosed patients asking question. Just call the office, and ask to speak to docs nurse & have nurse get back to you with docs answer.

yes get one.. need it.. the flu shot ... do not get the flu mist that one is the live virus.. you do not want that. i have gotten one every year.. protects you big time

My doctor says no. I never get the flu and have never gotten a shot. I thought we have over-active immune systems, so should we give it more meds to support it? I never quite understood this.

In the end people can only tell you their experiences with the flu shot and if you have taken the flu shot in the past and did not experience any symptoms, then by all means....
I personally do not take the flu shot because I have had bad experiences with it in the past.

Some people change when they are dx with MS, it seems that this disease shows more symptoms when we are newly dx. I am not saying everyone is like this, but I know a lot. Just my opinion.
