Scared!!! Symptoms REALLY getting bad!!!
irishrooster
Hi everyone,
I really have been needing to talk with yall. But by the time I could get to the computer I have been so tired.
Heres the deal. My left eye which has the problem of wanting to stay shut in the AM when I wake up for usually about an hour has been getting much worse. It is now staying shut going on 2 hours. I could not take my kids to school today because BOTH my eyes were shut and no matter how much I battled and tried to make them open they refused. It is freaking me out because the right one was always fine. I even put a lot of water on them and use lid cleanser and try to put dry eyes drops in them and none of it works!! I think what I have is called "blepharospasms" which just means "eyelid spasms." Plus the sun and a bright fluorescent room are literally killing my eyes now. I went to pick up the boys from school yesterday and the sun was very bright. I felt my eyelids quivering away and I looked in my side view mirror and my left eyelid was totally closed and my right one was partially closed. Well enough about that. Any advise or info?
Ok, heres another scary thing, I have been having double vision. It actually is coming is spurts. For some reason it just happens and stays for about an hour and then goes away again. Comes and goes. Not very often....yet. It makes me think of the progression of my eyelid thing. I have had that for well over a year and it used to just come every several weeks and then would only stay shut about 15 minutes or so. Now....well, you read the too long paragraph above. Does MS double vision come on and stay on or does it do like I described? I am trying to put together a "portfolio" of symptoms so that I can give them to the neuro when I finally see one. (don't get me started on that....lets just say the neuro person called me to say that they don't see people with fibro...(like I could care LESS about my fibro...Learned to live with that a long time ago...) and that they could help me with my headaches. I was so flabbergasted and confused that I actually started crying on the phone and told her about my toes, the MS hug, eyes, cognitive, etc...so anyway ball was dropped once again by my internists office and husband called them to straighten it out. My eye doc never even got the fax on it so basically I am having to wait another 4 or 5 days to get the OK for the visit.
Last thing. I went shopping for groceries tonight. I have been having pain in my left leg (everything is on my left) and up on the muscles and joints on my inner thigh next to the groin area. Well it was just a litttle pain so I thought no big deal. Well I had a huge list and it took me 3 hours to shop. Halfway through my leg was hurting much more and I was becoming very tired and hot. This is the thing I really really really need an answer for.....my lower back was hurting pretty bad as well and once as I was just walking along (luckily with both hands on the cart) I felt a sudden "feeling" in my lower back and my left leg just suddenly gave out on me. I mean literally. I would have fallen to the ground if I did not have both hands on the cart. I also noticed that when I wanted to turn and I would put my left leg behind my right leg to kinda "twirl" around I would also feel a sense of my leg wanting to give out. I actually began to notice that I was walking with a strange kind of limp almost like I was "pulling" my left leg along with me. I noticed that other people were looking at me and then would turn away real quick when I noticed them. I felt very embarassed. What in the WORLD was this? Should I be concerned about driving and simply being out walking? I have already suffered 2 "could have been deadly" head injuries and really do not need another one. I am not sure what is safe now and what is not. Why has everything (my strange symptoms) sped up so much? Please someone help me with this!!!! Thank you. Irish

I was diagnosised because of the double vision when I started college. It really is scarey; I do remember it being there for just 15 minuets one week, an hour for a few days, then shortly I had it straight for 3 or 4 months.
My friends thought it was funny and sent me eye patches because I HAD to cover one of my eyes to cross the street.
The eyes staying shut, I'm sorry but that one I haven't experienced, so I'm not sure what to say other than I hope you find answers soon.
Thanks so much! I am glad you told me about your double vision because that helps me feel less like I am being some kinda psychosomatic person. I always feel like because I have bipolar disorder that maybe somehow I "make up" diseases and illnesses in my mind and they become a reality. You know sorta how stress can literally "kill you". Also, having to "admit" to having bipolar when I see a doc is very intimidating because I always feel like they think, "oh she is not really sick, its all in her mind, after all she is one of those crazy bipolar people".
I really am scared that the eye shutting thing or the double vision could actually start lasting as long as you said yours did. You see I only have one major hobby in this world and that is reading. For me to have my eyes completely out of commission would be a complete and total "disaster" (as you said ;-) .. ). I am also very worried that it could come out of no where when I am toting my boys around town in the truck. I am trying to come up with a game plan in case that happens. It is scary to think how long a diagnosis will take since the only way that will happen is for the neuro to establish 2 relapses. I mean what if when I see him I have absolutely no symptoms? I went to see a neuro about 4 years ago when I first started having symptoms and I totally passed all of the first neuro exam with the reflexes and all that. I did not do well at all on walking the straight line though. I think that he thought I was deliberately almost falling over because at the end of it all he basically told me that it was all in my head and there was not a thing wrong with me. He was VERY rude to me. Since then I have avoided neuros since a lot of people I know told me that they had similar experiences and we all came to a conclusion that neuros were the most arrogant and rude specialists out there. I used to think cardiologists were but I had bouts of irregular heartbeats and very high blood pressure and saw two different cardios. They were such gentlemen. Even when they could find nothing to diagnose me with other than essential hypertension.
Yes, thank you I do hope I find answers soon. My dear sweet aunt, who is my mom's twin has been trying to help me figure out what is going on. Poor thing had brain surgery 2 years ago at the age of 63. She had a GIGANTIC benign tumor that took 8 hours to remove. The thing had been growing for over 40 years and was so calcified the neuro surgeon had to literally take a drill to get out chunks of the tumor. Now her whole personality has changed and the bipolar that she has tried to smother all her life roared up and she is a guinea pig now going through the first years of meds experimentation. She thought she was making me feel better when she mentioned that maybe I had a "small tumor" like the one she had. Since our body chemistry is almost exactly the same I figure she thinks that is quite a possibility.********The thing is I would rather have MS any day than a brain tumor!! I know that probably sounds like I am downplaying MS but I really really do not want a brain tumor! I am scared to death of brain surgery!!
Please when you see my posts in the future, even if you dont write back send positive thoughts my way....or if you pray a small prayer? I am really getting nervous and scared about all this. Thank you Princess and keep on keeping on! Irish
Anyway, thanks for writing and being supportive. I need my friends now. You guys are it! Irish

My optho said that he could fit me with prisims and just use as needed.
I did see you had a brain injury, while a brain injury don't cause you get or have MS it is proven that it can make MS active, where as you could of had it your whole life and it not become active, I had a bad closed head injury and believe that is what made my MS active, no symptoms till after that injury.
Do you have a cane? If not it would be a good investment, might prevent a fall. A lot of people with MS have troubles on one side unless they have lesions on both sides of the brain or spinal lesions. I want to wish you luck and pray that they find something other than MS wrong with you, bad club to have to belong to. Slow down and try to stop stressing as stress makes things worse.
Take Care
Dave
My MS didn't present until I hit my head, like Ole Blue stated before. Same with my sister who also presented after a head injury.
Take care of yourself, let us know how you are doing!
