I was just prescribed Ritalin (10mg twice a day, up to 30mg twice a day). I'm not going to hallucinate or have any weird side effects am I?

I was on Modafinil (Provigil, Alertec, etc) and I couldn't breathe when I took it, so that's why I switched.

I have a friend who takes ritalin for adhd and she said she didn't have any problems. it just calmed her down.

A dr i had a LOOOOONG time ago prescribed me one ritalin. he said my reaction to the pill would help him diagnose me. I passed out and slept for about 15 hours lol

so, that's two people who didn't freak out. I HATE taking new meds. i always worry about how i'll react. I hope it goes well for you.

I'm not going back to school until January, so I'm just trying to experiment with medications now to figure out what will and what won't work for me now while I have time to experiment to find the right drug cocktail.

hopefyllt the ritalin wont put me to sleep

I haven't had any side affects or weird things happen since I started taking it. I take one at 430 or so in the am when I get up and another around 1030 am just so I can continue on through the day. I'm thinking about upping the perscription because I'm starting to get sleepy during the morning again, but other than that, I've had no issues with it. I've been trying to get switched to provigil or nuvigil, but my insurance company won't cover it.

My son has taken ritalin most of his life for ADHD. I'm ADD and took it for a very short period of time, and at very low doses. It did nothing for me or to me. It's weird, but people with ADD/HD take ritalin and it calms them down, and people without ADD/HD it should do the opposite (give them energy). That is why so many college campuses have a rage for ritalin. The students use it to keep them up when they have exams. Also, like someone taking ritalin who is not ADD would probably be up from it. Does that make sense? I drink coffee and it doesn't do a thing for me, and my husband who is "normal" drinks coffee and he is affected by the caffeine. My son who is ADHD drinks coffee and it calms him down. But my son has never had bad side effects from it and he has taken it for years successfully.

I tried ritalin once. Doc had to tinker with the dose, and time I was to take it. When we got things right it worked, just not as well as Provigil did for me. When the ritalin wore off, it was like a mach truck hit & I was tired . . . not good if you're working.

I have 3 other friends with MS who use it, it works well for them.

Like all meds, some work well for you, others not. We just have to try, be patient, and see.
