Relistor. Shots for Chronic Constpation
carolinagirl123
I have maxed out all of the things to do for constipation. I recently had a upper GI and also a lower GI. I have a pool of bile in my stomach and stomach lining imflamation. This is due to bowels not moviing properly. I have gone 9 days before being able to bathroom. MY Gastrologist is recommending I begin these shots for my constipation. HE has discussed ths with my nuerologist as well, they both think my condition is most likely due to the disease, MS. Sluggish bowels, the intestine muscles have been effected and dont work so good anymore. These shots have only been out 2 or 3 yrs. I dont like to take stuff that hasnet been out long. Anybody have any knowledge or experience wth this?

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

When I go like four days without a movement for 4 days, I can only drink fluids because I feel so full. That seems to help me have a movement plus I am not hungry because of all the pressure against my stomach that fools my stomach. But it really helps me have a movement to not eat any solid food.
I have never heard about shots for constipation. This must be new. I hope that you find a cause and a cure not just treating the symptom. I am so sorry. Please let us know what happens.
I DO NOT think you should consider it until you've exhausted all other options and there are other options. 1. Miralax daily, senna tea or tabs for motility, sorbitol, lactulose, ducolax suppositories, enemas. Maybe add high fiber back in later. Its trial and error but you have to reset the bowel, Took me 3 months. And you have to be patient and persistent, Its not fun but its crucial for quality of life.
First you must retrain your bowel and its a primitive organ that takes time. I know everyone means well about magnesium but we are way past that where Carolinagirl and me are. I just went thru it.

I have to constantly stay on top of this with suppositories and laxatives. If you can discuss a realistic bowel program with the GI or find a physiatrist who treats spinal cord injury patients that would be the first thing I would recommend, They go thru this too.
All the best It's one of the suckiest parts of MS,
cut it open, and remove the gel inside. you should only ingest the clear gel part, no green parts. they said a 6inch piece would mean don't go far from the bathroom! it supposedly tastes horrible
either cut into pieces you can swallow whole with juice or blend into a smoothie.
I was looking at it for its anti inflammatory purposes, but it cleanses the GI system too.
I will post a link to the article soon.
No more Miralax at $20+ a bottle.
No more Milk of MAGNESIA (I hated drinking this horrid stuff!).
No more of the other stuff either (Ducolax, stool softeners, etc.).
What I would recommend is get some magnesium at the store and try taking 400 mg. a day.
It takes about a week or so to work so be sure to give it a fair chance but do not overdose on it because it will make you rather sick to say the least.
You'll be surprised! I know I was!
You might look for lorrieonline's post on magnesium. It is cheap ($12.99 for a huge bottle of it at COSTCO, enough to last for 6 months!) is a deal and solves this problem.
I asked my doctor about this and she said it was ok but if you have kidney disease, it is not ok.
Be sure to ask your doctor about this before you try it (I didn't admittedly).
If you stopped eating meat which has no fiber and just ate yogurt and or real fruit or fruit juice in a blender until you got this under control, that would be a start. I do not know how you are managing because now it must have been a lot more than 9 days now. I hope that you have had some action. Eating broth soup would help and lots of fluids.
Please let us know what the solution to this is rather than a shot. If it gets worse, I guess you will have to try anything. I would be desperate at this point.
I don't take milk of magnesia or milalax. I eat a lot of vegetables and fruit daily from the farmer's market and take senna leaves twice a week gotten from the health food store and that works very nicely. Lots of raisins and sunflower seeds every morning also works wonders. They are not that expensive. A lot cheaper than prescription drugs. I get them bulk at the health food store and they are organic and cheaper than the grocery store.
