I have taken Provigil and I can sleep on it! It doesn't work for me all the time. Sometimes I take it and it really works and gives me energy. I do note that when I take it on a regular basis, the effects wear off, the pill doesn't work. I noticed that when I take it only when I need it, I get the energy I need, but to take it regularly doesn't work. I've heard many others have this same problem. It's like our bodies get immuned to the affects of it. I don't think your side affects (whatever they are - you did not discuss them) will go away with more regular use of this drug.
If you have the time, why not try taking it regularly for a week now, and see what happens and how your body reacts to the medication? This way you will know what to expect when it comes time to take the medication for the graduation.
Thanks for your input. The side effects are just plain crazy as they never seem to be the same. Sometimes I feel like a wide awake Zombie with no energy. Sometime my heart rate increases up to 140 BPM and sometimes it stays steady. I sometimes get the shakes, it also makes my mind go crazy with wild thoughts so than I have to take a Xanax to slow things down, it is like a new experience each time I take it.
I think the trial week is good as I have a lot that needs to be done seeing as spring is upon us. I have read that you can build a tolerance to it so that is why only as needed as my body seems to build a tolerance pretty quick on a lot of meds and that is also why I take the Baclofen only as needed. My PCP thought maybe Adderal might be a better choice but so many people talk about a bad crash on that and I don't have a crash on Provigil.
My other big worry is that the week of graduation is also infusion week and the steroids drive up my BP and heart rate, so I'm trying to get them do it a week early as it is always the second week that I feel good after the infusion as week of infusion makes me feel horrible or they are going to have to do it a week later, as you know this graduation is so important to me. I'll do the week trial and let you know how it works, I was thinking maybe just split it half which is 100mg and if it works out go onto week 2 at 200mg unless the 100 works out.
Take Care

I take Provigil everyday. I've had no problems with it.
The increased heart rate and not sleeping are not good things. I think you should talk with your doctor and maybe try something else.
Good luck
