I took Provigil for awhile. After a couple of months I found it to be of no use. It is very expensive - cost is about $6.00 a pill (200 mg.).

I was lucky I guess. My co-pay is $25.00 for a 90 day supply. I still have a bunch of this stuff left as it keeps for a very long time it seems.

It was real speedy at first. I couldn't sleep. I also lost weight at first too as killed my appetite. It briefly ridded me of the constipation I battle. After the speedy part wore off, the few positive effects I had initially noticed were gone.

I've tried Amantadine as well. That has no effect.

I ran into another woman where I live that has MS. We talked about Provigil. We both said the same thing about it simultaneously - those words were "BULLSHIT SPEED".

Yep, that is it alright. Oh well ... next. ;-)

i took provigil too a 400 mg. a day. it stops workingafter a while. then maybe take a different drug for a week; then go back to it. and, yes, how the doctors writes up the need for it determines who much the insurance will pay.

Provigil does help me but my Ins. won't pay for it. They told my Neuro. to put me on Ritalin and he won't do that. He wrote a letter to them explaining Provigil is not only using for narcolepsy but has had great results for the tiredness that results from MS. They still wouldn't buy his explanation even after he sent them papers from the NationlMSSociety.
He also won't put me on Amantadine as that is used for the treatment of Parkinson's and he feels it won't react well with the rest of the meds I'm on.
He just gives me boxes of Provigil samples when he has them and, I like feisty take it as needed, although it's not as effective as it would be if I were taking it on a regular basis. I usually break them in half till my next visit to make them last longer.

I take the provigil on an as need and it works great for me. I really don't take it often but if I feel I have a lot to get done one day I take it and it works wonders. Maybe if taken on an as need basis it would not stop working like it has for so many??
