I don't have kids, but I hate to see an unanswered post so I thought I'd just tell you what I've read and heard about pregnancy and MS. If you're on an interferon, I don't believe you can stay on while you're pregnat but I've heard that most pregnant women experience remission during their pregnancies, sometimes followed by multiple relapses 3-6 months after the baby is born. Plenty of women have babies after the MS diagnosis, so please don't be afraid. I'm sure that some of the "MS Mommies" on this website will see your post soon and respond. :-)

I was diagnosed after my 3rd child was born. Looking back I am sure I have had this for more than 10 years. I am pretty sure I had flare ups after each child. I KNOW I did after the 3rd. I started with an itch and burning sensation about 3 months after I stopped breast feeding. I also had numbness on the left side of my body that I didn't really pick up on until the itch started but it effected the breast feeding. My daughter did not like to feed on that side. I think the numbness caused my body to be fooled into not producing as much milk on that side. Other than that I felt great for most of the pregnancy and after. Just don't stop breast feeding!!!! It's something about those hormones!!!! A flare up is soooo worth it when you are talking about a new baby and a wonderful addition to your family!!! Don't be afraid! I do have to say that chasing a 17 month old is much harder at 40 than 30! And that has nothing to do with the MS! Just old age!!!!

I was dx'd with MS about 3 years before I got pregnant...I will admit that I was a bit nervous when i found out I was pregnant.. but while I was pregnant I felt the best I had in years as far as MS symptoms go (I had terrible Morning sickness and a lot of problems during my pregnancy that weren't MS related) After my son was born I had a relapse about 6 months later and I was treated with steroids and was back to "normal" I do get tired chasing my son around, but is that MS or is that just having a preschooler? I wasn't diagnosed until after my 2nd was born. However all of my ms symptoms were traced back to beginning very shortly after my fist was born. My neurologist said I was undiagnosed for 5 years, meaning I had MS during my 2nd pregnancy. I "dropped" and started having contractions at 26 weeks because the MS had made my muscles very weak. The labor was stopped and I was put on bed rest until 35 weeks. So...the short of my long reply is that it is ok to get pregnant. Just make sure you are not taking any MS meds and your neurologist and Ob know. Also, your MS can go into remission during the pregnancy, but watch out after the baby is born. The symptoms can return very strong.

I SAY GO FOR IT GIRL!!! I AM PREGNANT RIGHT NOW. IN FACT I AM SCHEDULED TO HAVE A C-SECTION ON THE 20TH OF THIS MONTH SO I HAVE A WEEK AND A HALF TO GO. WOOHOOO!!!! I WAS NERVOUS AND SCARED AT FIRST BUT I SOON RELAXED AND FIGURED OUT THAT I WOULD BE JUST FINE. I HAVE HAD 2 FLARE-UPS, I THINK, BUT NOTHING REALLY MAJOR. OTHER THAN MY NORMAL EVERYDAY SYMPTOMS, I AM DOING JUST FINE. SWEELING REALLY SUCKS IN THE SUMMER BUT THAT IS WITH ANY PREGNANCY. SO I SAY GO FOR IT IF YOU WANT AMOTHER ONE. THIS IS MY SECOND CHILD BY THE WAY. 10 YEARS BETWEEN THE 2. JUST BE SURE TO STOP YOUR INJECTIONS, MEDS, WHATEVER YOU ARE TAKING BEFORE YOU START TRYING. GOOD LUCK, TAMMY

Hi! I had my children 6 years after dx. I have absolutely no regrets. But I wanted to know what you are afraid of, the symptoms while pregnant or the "raising children with an MS dx?" I know you have a daughter already (she is adorable! btw :) )so that might actually be a stupid quesion!

I was dxd in March of '06 and pregnant by April of '06!! My neuro told me that they're finding that MS symptoms typically go away during pregnancy, so I decided to get pregnant just to see if he was right! HE WAS!! I felt better when I was pregnant that I've felt in a very long time. That makes me want to be pregnant all the time! LOL My doc also said that many women relapse immediately following childbirth. I think I may have, but I was also totally worn out like every mother with a newborn. So I really can't say.
No fear. It's all good.

I enjoyed being pregnant so much that I volunteered to be a suragate for a couple a few weeks ago!!! I said I would have a baby for them as long as they didn't try to give it BACK;) The husband didn't like the idea very well though!

If you decide to get pregnant, please, keep in touch as we are trying to conceive.
We weighed out my age and MS and a hip disability and decided to go for it after consulting with neurologist and OB. It took time for us to think about and read literature on pregnancy and MS to feel informed and comfortable with our decision.

We have had 2 wonderful kids post-diagnosis. I have the common theme of feeling very well during the pregnancies, but relapse about 3 months after each one. It was difficult, but obviously so worth it! My neuro always told me not to let M.S. stop us from having children. We were considering trying for a 3rd child, but I have to admit that I have been very hesitant given my age and my past experience with post-partum relapse. I've been thinking we better stop at 2 and call it good. But.... we recently had a birth control "mishap" (the things that get shared here...I haven't even told my closest friend about this...shhh) and I am currently wondering if I am pregnant. I have a mix of emotions! I know that if I am or do get pregnant again, I would be more pro-active, ie possible early steroid treatment as well as getting more support/help post-partum!

when i got married i already had ms for several years. I was really scared of having kids i talked to a gynecologist. she told me that we make a hormonein our body that helps out while we are pregnant, I have 3 children now. for first two pregnancies remembered I had alot headaches, then with #3 I felt no discomfort. don't be scared..i was but now there are my joy and motivation..
