A close friend of mine who has MS and is in the very progressive stages had a bad experience going from prednisone to other drugs (I don't know the names of them); and severe depression was one of the main issues she dealt with. I would call your neuro and seek help for this; depression is not something you can control. good luck!

call both your doc's and give them what you told us here and tell them you called both of them see what they have to say. Note the switch in antidepresants could be a big part of the cause but the roids will drive you crazy but oral, roids I don't think really every are strong enough to calm down a flare and should only taken for a taper after solumedrol. But that is just my opinoin of 22 years of the MonSter

Hi, I'm on prednisone at the moment due to being diagnosed with ON and pains in my arm and leg on the left side. They tend to give only oral roids here, they do not admit patients for steroid drips because of bed blocking unless they are in critical/intensive care.

I have had no end of trouble taking them. Irritable, depressed, weight loss (weirdly enough) due to feeling on the verge of being sick all the time, which is depressing in itself and exacerbation of my "normal" fatigue.
It didn't really help with my eye or numb/tingly/pained arm and leg either. My ON eye is feeling better now, but its been 7 weeks since the blind spot so I guess it healed itself anyway. I have no end of trouble taking anything.
Generally I can't really take any meds without feeling awful. I get side effects from everything. Anti-depressants I was prescribed a few years ago Citalopram they are called here, left me bedridden for 7 weeks and they just exacerbated all my depression/anxiety symptoms. They just gave me diazepam for a while after that, until the "attack" was over. My depression/anxiety seems to come in "attacks" with my other symptoms.
Talk through to your Neuro or Dr, they may be able to pin point what caused what, and give you something more appropriate.

Also... forgot to add, when you come off prednisone, you get withdrawal symptoms for a long while afterward. Anger, depression, anxiety, headaches, dizziness and the like. It tends to last for a few weeks after taking them.

Hi! I've actually had depression with high doses of Prednisone and I also get it sometimes with the Rebif. I have to watch out when I take Prednisone because that with the Rebif can be a double whammy! I would let my neuro know about it and see if he would be kind enough just to go straight to the Solumedrol.

Thanks everyone, it helps to know that others have had this kind of reaction to the prednisone. I'll call my neuro tomorrow and next time I will go for the solumedrol instead of the prednisone. Thanks again.

The IV Medrol will diffinately improve your problem you are have with the MS at the time much more than the oral prednizone but it is still a roid and at a much higher dose than they give you orally. You are still going to get the bad side effects from the roids but you should seen ms symtom improvement
