I totally feel your pain! Plus I am 45 and have a AA degree, a BS degree in criminal justice---(btw most cops I went to school with felt that medical marijuana should be legalized....takes up too much of their time), and I also have an EC-4th grade teaching certificate and I am a nationally registered certified medical assistant. I have been looking for work for over 7 months now. Filled out probably 500 apps (web sites where you enter all your info and then just click the jobs you wanna apply for....same for hospitals, clinics, government jobs) and I have been on over 20 interviews and nada....I just recently learned that prospective employers are checking credit reports on possible employees. Now I know why I am not getting hired and probably will NOT get hired EVER. I can not believe that America has come to this.
Sure my credit is bad but hey it is bad for a reason folks!! Like I had no money to pay bills with!!! Feeding my kids, clothing them, and paying for school stuff has to come first, then I need the roof over our heads and the old 2004 truck we have already refinanced twice to get us all from point A to point Z. I have been thinking of bankruptcy myself. However D says that is not possible. Figures. Illegal aliens get their schooling paid for free but people like us just trying to make it and we cant do it. Our wonderful government..not. Anyway, do not get me started on THAT track!!!
As far as the disability for the student loans, I looked that up and it said that we had to have our apps and tons of info from our docs in by 12/31/2011. My husband said that probably means the program ended and the funding ran out. Of course. What else should I expect. The man in the big white house has shot our country into 3 trillion more deficit and from what I understand from the economists who have analyzed that info that amount could have paid for EVERY American's loan....student, house, car, private, etc....So what do we see or get for that 3 trillion? I dont know about you but I havent seen or received a d*mn thing!!! My taxes are higher, as soon as I graduated with the teacher certificate the education funding was frozen and cut so I had no prospects there. Then with the MA thing ..... well I don't speak fluent spanish and if you live in Texas you better speak fluent Spanish if you expect to work as an MA. Its ridiculous. All I want is OUT also. Im so tired of it all.
I guess we could always call those numbers we see on TV huh? Or we could google it? I think I am going to check out Hummies advice about the bankruptcy discussion here as well.
Hey!!! But lotsa luck to you and your man!!! I know he can do it, you should let him know that if he is really good with cars he can make a lot of money specializing in one of the fancy ones like a German car that is different than American. I know some people who do that and they are pretty well off. My grandpa worked for Chevy all of his life as a mechanic and he bought my grandma a nice home and a Cadillac every 4 years. had to be doing pretty good for that! Good luck and if you learn anything extra about the student loans PLEASE let me know through a message OK? If I learn anything I will let you know as well. Are we friends yet? If not Im sending you a hug and a friends request, be sure to click on it so I can send you a message easy. Take care and love ya! Tamye (Irish)
Those loans can be dismissed IF and only IF you took them out BEFORE you found out you have MS. If you took them out knowing that you had this problem, you are stuck for paying them back.
I had loans myself and they were dismissed being I took them out before I found out I had MS. This was in 1996. I know that is a while back and things may have changed.
Best to check with the carrier of your student loans for advice.
As for bankruptcy, I'd only do it as a last resort as it ruins your credit history and follows you for years.
Best of luck and hang in there!

Your friend,

She told me that I was eligible for a 12 month deferment due to being on social security. She said they would send the paperwork and to fill it out and send a copy of my social security award letter. She said I could get a copy from the SS office. Also she said that if my doc(s) felt like I should do PERMANENT DISABILITY that all my Sallie Mae and Government loans would be discharged and I would not have to pay back anything. I have also found out that is true for car payments as well. Not sure about other stuff but I think it holds true for credit card payments as well.
the problem with that solution is that then you are stuck not being able to work. Period. Unless you can find something under the governments radar like selling on eBay or you could do what my aunt and uncle have done..they are both disabled..they attend these storage unit auctions once a month and bid and buy stuff that people have just left behind and then they resale it. It has worked wonders for them. They now have 2 rental houses and a pretty decent house by the bay. So far so good as far as the feds not coming down on them. Good luck as before. I am with you in this sister! Tamye
