I don't think you need to disclose your disability unless asked and then I think honesty is key. If they don't undertand you don't want to work for them and as far as reason for leaving, I always say "personal". There was something going on at that time which needed my undivided attention and I felt it was in everyone's best interest that I take a leave of abscence from the employment environment. Remember Disability is a double edged sword. Now they send inspectors out to check on you and if they find you are able to work and are doing "well" this may be cause to take away your disability so weigh your options closely before doing anything. so you think it is a bad idea to go to work? SS said I could work as long as I didnt make over $1,000 and when I did have to work I have to call them. This making me very nervous now. I have jsut recently improved mainly with my chronic pain, finally got the right med, so I am feeling better. but not enough to work 40 hrs. and I certainly cant live off part-time... Do these inspectors call my employers and ask about my job performance? I feel like I should just cancel the interview now, but I do wanted to get the job, I need the extra income and to get out of the house some. Maybe its too soon for me to be working partime, since ive only been on ss since november.

Once something is said it can't be unsaid, it can't be withdrawn. Like judyz your not required to so don't. And i like the posts I read of people when they work and end up having to disclose, don't disclose the details. Just say its a non contagious neuro muscular syndrome that affects...? (whatever needs to be explained).

I agree Don't ask, don't tell. Give it a go and see what happens. Just be covert. People have gotten away with working while on disability for years. Just make sure you don't tell any of your neighbors where you are going and make sure you tell those you THINK you can trust that if someone asks them if you are working they just say "how would I know, ask her" and that way they aren't lying and you are "safe". It is actually disconcerted people you need to worry about. They might turn you in so to speak and FYI SSI and SSI disability are 2 different entities. Yes you can work on SSI but SSI disability states you are unable to work that is why you are receiving benefits. So be discrete! Again, good luck.

I have been on SSDI since 2003, and have worked part time since July of 2004. As long as you stay under the limit of what SS says you can make, you will be fine. SS knows I work, and my bossman knows all the details, and knows I have a limit as to how much I can make. He's actually quite happy about this, because it means I very seldom ask for a raise.

Hi, I don't know if it is worth it because you can only make so much money. I tried it and ended up making $1.00 an hour, really. I would first find out how much you can make unless they are paying you cash then there is no problem. But if you have to claim it then they will deduct it from your disability. They make it pretty difficult for us. The people that want to work can't . Good luck, hugs Maggie

might want top check this site out if your state has a contract with them. They would be flexible about staying within the max hours and time needed off work. I've read some get screwed when they stay within the max hours during a 4 month week but exceed it on one of the 5 week months.

be very careful i worked and i called and reported that i worked and still collected cuz i was under the limit but they ended up fining me so im in the hole like $50,000. no shit with interest and they dont screw around. it was their fault but i have to pay back on their terms so thet take $175 a month from me really screws me so be careful get names and time of who u talk to and document everything. just make sure u document everything

They have a link called employment with MS.

It has a worksheet and PDF file as how and if and when to tell your employer about MS. It even discusses what to disclose in an interview.......This has really helped me.
