pain from cold wind

I was happy to see the article in the monthly ms magazine about pain from the cold weather. Heat bothers me in totally different ways than the cold. The cold just stiffens my legs and I tremble and shiver until I feel incapacitated. It's worse than the vertigo and fatigue from the heat in the summer.

I just bought myself a pair of snow pants like I had as a child. I don't do the fashion thing anymore, I need comfort. Finally, at 60 years old I don't care what others think. I hope the snow pants will cut the wind and I will be able to walk my dog on the decent days during winter.

Anyone else deal with this, and how do you deal with it? will appreciate all responses and thanks in advance.

When I get cold, even inside, I start having muscle jerks. It's not the most attractive thing to see. LOL

Geesh - I imagine that if cold weather was a factor for me at all, I'd have to wear leggings and boots. (It's the heat I have problems with for most of the year in Florida...)

lorrieonline, I just moved to Leesburg to get out of the cold. I also have a problem with the heat. Thank goodness for the AC.

My body aches when I get cold. I do have stiffness too. The heat brings me muscle cramps and fatigue.

My legs lockup also. I wear a baselayer (long underwear) and sometimes a pair of flannel pj pants under jeans. Also limit the time I'm out in the cold. I could never walk the dog, or we would get down the trail and I couldn't get back. Those cheap handwarmers and foot warmers are good also.

I haven't been officially diagnosed with MS, however I have fibromyalgia. So the cold bothers fibro and the heat bothers MS. I have found that the heat makes me have more pins and needles all over my body. Humidity, well just forget it, I am a wreck when it is hot and humid.

I must be just weird. If I take a quick walk outside in the cold I feel better for a short time. I have MS, Fibro, Graves Disease, Osteoarthritis, Spondylosis and on and on. But for the last couple years I noticed that a very short walk out in the cold seems to help things a little. Maybe it's just the act of walking... a little exercise that does it, but I know it's better in the winter. I don't like being cold, but I can warm up easier than I can cool down.

littlesmart ... I wish I had your tolerance for the cold weather. I can tolerate the heat of summer but certainly not the cold of winter.

Chrissyh I really can't take much of the cold. It just seems that if I go out in it for just a few minutes my body aches seem better for a while. A short time. But no, I do not like being cold.

Thanks for your post. Cold also bothers me in a different way than heat. Yet if I take brief breaks outdoors (only a few minutes) throughout the day, I often feel better physically & mentally. Always mindful to be dressed in layers. Menopause hotflashes adds another dimension to the heat intolerance (my husband & I call them 'power 'surges' - lol.) Guess I had better make cold weather plans as we plan a slow transition back to living in Montana by 2017. Thanks again.

    I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital.  I don't think that we will have her much longer.  She is very frail.  Now she needs help eating.  So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying.  I think crying releases toxins into my body.  I also worked up a sweat at the gym...
