Optic Neuritis

hey everyone,

i had optic neuritis beginning in october of 2008, i guess. and it went away in early 2009. things have been pretty much normal since then.

today i went to a new neurologist for something completely different than my MS and he took a look at my eyes. he told me he could tell i had optic neuritis because there were some effects. some effects that i was entirely too foolish not to ask about, but i was completely focused on other things.

have any of you been told anything like this?

I still have some problems, floaters being that I can tell on my own. I also have some problems on the fiels of vision in certain areas, and there is a weakness they seem to be able to see and/or measure in the nerves behind my eye on that side. As far as my vision goes, I have trouble with the light on and then light off, I need some time to adjust before they do the test.

When you have had optic neuritis and it clears up there is some scarring that is visible when a Dr. looks into your eye. You may also have some slight residual vision issues in the eye. Have your eyes checked by an Opthamologist on a regular basis.

Yes, that is also important, forgot. Eye exams every six months. I have a neuroopthomologist (sp?) who I waited to have as my doctor for months, but it is great. Knows what's what with everything.

Oh, jeez, sorry, I have MS today. I forgot to say that I had ON in 2005, and I totally lost the sight in my right eye for weeks, came back slowly, but never quite the same. I did not have steroids as this was not the first sign of MS, and I would rather have had the problem that the solution.

My neurologist told me that even after the vision improves the damage to the optic nerve can still be seen for a while after though it may eventually heal. I've had optic neuritis twice that I recall. First in my left eye and later in my right eye. My eyes still bother me if I am overly fatigued.

I had/have optic neuritis in my optic chasm (meaning I went blind in both eyes). It happened September 2009. When I go to my neuropthomologist, he says he can see nerve damage in my eyes. I guess the nerves are supposed to be pinkish and mine are pale/white. He can also see that I have permanent damage in both of my eyes but I have enough nerve fibers left to be able to see almost perfectly (20/20 in one eye, 20/30 in the other).

The nerve damage is permanent unless your nerves regenerate (which they can sometimes do). But, in most cases you will have enough nerve fiber left to still be able to see perfectly fine.

I had ON as onset in 2002. Right eye that lasted for a month and a half or so and came back on it's own, dx'd then left eye went. They hit me with solumedrol for the left since I was dx'd and they knew what was up. I have 99% clarity or more in both eyes, although the color red in my left eye is a couple shades toward pink. There is residual nerve damage, but alot of it has healed. Havent had a bout of ON in over 8 yrs. I do get double vision occasionally only when I am Extremely tired. Like up for 30 or so hours..
