Hi everyone.
I know this isn't a ms question but thought there might be some of you who can help me with hints etc.
We are hoping to go to Disneyland in Anaheim (the original one so hope I got the right one). We are hoping to go there middle of next year & would like any hints & experiences too.
When is the best time of year to go? We don't want summer or too cold.
Apparently there is a hotel walking distance from the park or in it?
Any other hints would be great. We still have to do our homework on flights, costs etc but its always been my dream to go to Disneyland. We think we should do it sooner not later as already in a wheelchair with other issues as well as ms so don't want to leave it too long till I have trouble remembering (more than now) or other things too.
Thanks in advance
Sue

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

I'm sure others will have great tips on where to stay, etc. One thing I would suggest. If you aren't traveling with your own scooter, you can rent one or a wheelchair in the park, or even from a medical supply place near the park, they will deliver. When we went to Disneyworld, I was told to go straight to guest services upon arrival and request a guest assistance pass. This allows you and your party to use the handicap entrances to the rides. Disney is very disabled friendly.
I don't know the best time of year really. Someone else would know more on that. I grew up in San Jose California, but I can't remember the climate changes and when. I would say you don't want to go during the hottest summer months, July and August. As far as crowds, there again maybe someone else knows the best time to avoid the biggest crowd times. When people from around here travel there, they go anytime in the spring, fall and thanksgiving or Christmas are popular times.
I hope you get a lot of tips :)
Good luck!

Since the whether is of prime importance for someone with MS, I'd say, be sure to check the weather forecasts and check out the seasons. Ask about hotel discounts too. They have travel club discounts and all sorts of things. Don't be afraid to call the reservations folks and find out what's the mildest weather and the best time of year for a mild climate.
I've never been to California but from what I can tell, Anaheim looks as though it would have some very mild weather - probably winter would be very cool temps but I'd say fall would probably be a nice time of year -- I'd still ask the reservations people or someone who lives there though.
Here's a site on some hotels: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g29092-Anaheim_California-Hotels.html (again, ask people - it's really hard to shop for a hotel from a website or a book). If you like, I can post the question online - I used to be in the hotel biz and I think some of my associates may have ideas.
Another thing to take into consideration as our additional cost for ms is also a lot additional no matter where we go etc. We take a yearly policy as covers us for any small trips too & easier to renew that a short one when you have to apply all over again (if that makes sense).
We will wait till then to decide. There are all different trips & heaps of choices.
In the meantime the cruise company - Princess cruises that we have done a 23 night Asia cruise & the 14 night New Zealand cruise last month, has got back to us about the complaint we made about some of the "issues" we had on our last cruise.
We had sent a 2 page email with both good & bad & some suggestions on how to make it easier for disabled people, especially in wheelchairs.
The manager of customer service for Australia phoned me & we had a lengthy discussion. I explained that even though we enjoyed the cruise after the first day or so (when food was sorted for meals on 2nd night & from then on), we still had "issues" with lack of room in the buffet for wheel chairs & scooters to get through. This was an ongoing issue right through the cruise & nothing could be done about it.
Apparently that ship is now in "dry dock" for a remodel/refit. Our comments have been taken into consideration & the distance between tables (corridor) has now been increased to that of a standard 4 wheel scooter or large wheelchair. That is a big improvement on what it was.
I was quite impressed that we had actually been taken seriously & not ignored, didn't feel like I was being have "wind blown up my arse" as we say, don't know how else to put it.
He did offer us a good price on next cruise we take with them in next 4 years with an extra $150 shipboard credits too. We have already paid $100 deposit each which is our deposit for a cruise any time in next 4 years (a special deal they offered on the cruise) for "future cruise bookings". This would mean we could do a 21 (or might be 23) night Asia cruise for the same amount we paid for 14 nights New Zealand. The only additional cost would be flights home from Beijing which currently is about $1000 each, very competitive. This would make that cruise (which now is different in some stops than 2 years ago) cheaper than about 1-2 weeks in USA.
Hard to decide, but we have till September to decide on the cruise at no penalty. Did book with him at present but can delay till another year no ? asked at no penalty till them. By then we will have been able to read more about USA & anaheim Disneyland too.
We will be taking our own wheelchair whichever way it goes & if going on cruise will take walker that converts to w/chair too so can do tender ports like Hong Kong. It now stops overnight there & you get a full day & till 4pm the next day too. We can go to Disneyland there too if we want to or go to one of the markets that we didn't get to see much of as small time left on tour for it. Would do both by ourself if we did them.
There were lots of different tours at all our stops that we could do if we wanted to as well.
It will be a hard decision, will wait & see what our $$ are like then too.
Will write about that in different post.
Please keep any information on Disneyland & areas near to see & stay too. Was looking at a tour that is 2 weeks, going to Los Angeles, Grand canyon & a few other places but it would be rushed & on the go each day too which I think would be hard going & expensive before adding food & shopping & extra trips like over canyon ect. This would make it almost 2-3 times price of cruise where food is included etc.
Lots to process & think about.
