A friend of my parents has an autoimmune disease as well and her energy levels had been completely depleted. She started taking a glutathione supplement and her energy came back.
She told my mom about this vitamin and recommended that I try it. I started taking the supplement about a week ago, and even the first day of taking it, I was wired with energy. It doesn't have any negative side effects, I'm not jittery, I can breathe properly (which I couldn't when taking Alertec/Provigil) and when I'm ready for bed, I can fall asleep easily.
It's pretty expensive (about $60 for a box of the supplement) but it is worth it. I take one pill in the morning and then another mid afternoon when I start to get drowsy again and I'm ready to go for the rest of the day (the recommended dosage on the packaging is 3 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon).
The supplement is called MaxGXL. It is a glutathione supplement. My mom found it at a health/vitamin store in a small town so it's pretty widely available. the website is www.maxgxl.com
I haven't had this much energy in years. I have been consistently anemic for about 5 years, and more tired now because of MS.
I am not trying to advertise this product but if it can do this for me in such a short amount of time, it is worth looking into.
Hopefully it continues to work so well for me

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

But thanks for the post, I will give a look see, curious to see what all is in it. I take several supplements and have to be sure that nothing is the wrong thing to take with the other. But, again, thanks for the hint. Hopefully some will find it useful.
You have every reason to be skeptical about these supplements, I was as well, but I figured as long as my mom was going to buy them it can't hurt to try.
I read on some other forums that some doctors give glutathione patches to patients with MS but there isn't really any reliable information that I have come across yet. All I know is that I now have energy when I didn't before.
I just know it works, and if it continues working for the next month I have a lot of family members with fibromyaglia that are looking forward to trying it.
Thanks again, and please do let us know. If it continues to work, I would love to consider it.

I have energy, I can focus. I feel hyper, like I have too much energy a lot of the time. My mom just says I probably feel like a normal 22 year old should and that since I have been tired since I was in my mid-teens I have no idea how I should really be feeling.
I saw my neurologist yesterday to go over the results of my MRI from last week. The Betaseron injections that I am taking do seem to be working. My entire right brain appeared white on my MRI in September and still in November. I have only developed one new lesion since November and it is no longer active. All of my previous lesions seem to be fading.
I don't know if my energy levels are returning because I have no active lesions or if the glutathione supplements are giving me energy.
I asked my neuro about glutathione and he said I'm likely experiencing a placebo effect. However I was very skeptical about the supplements going in since Modafinil (Alertec, Provigil) did not work for me, it only gave me breathing problems and made me jittery.
All in all, I would definitely recommend trying glutathione. I know that I feel better than I have in years. I was even able to get up at 5am for work the other day, bike 1km there, leave at 11am bike 2km to school and do school work and then get home and clean the apartment, make dinner and watch a movie. I was a little bit tired the next day, but I was able to get things done still.
However, if you take glutathione as a suppository you can raise your glutathione levels. Also, there are other supplements like NAC that will raise your glutathione levels.
Do these supplements contain other things besides glutathione? If its just free glutathione is might be a scam/placebo unfortunately....I hate to say that when people are feeling better, but you cant really get benefits from oral glutathione unless you put it in your butt or inject it or use other supplements that indirectly contribute to your own glutathione production.
Supplementing has been difficult, as research suggests that glutathione taken orally is not well absorbed across the GI tract. In a study of acute oral administration of a very large dose (3 grams) of oral glutathione, Witschi and coworkers found that "it is not possible to increase circulating glutathione to a clinically beneficial extent by the oral administration of a single dose of 3 g of glutathione."[21][22]
However, plasma and liver glutathione concentrations can be raised by oral administration of S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe).[23][24][25] Glutathione precursors rich in cysteine include N-acetylcysteine (NAC)[26][27] and whey protein,[28][29][30][31][32][33] and these supplements have been shown to increase glutathione content within the cell. N-Acetylcysteine is available both as a drug and as a generic supplement. Alpha Lipoic Acid has also been shown to restore intracellular glutathione.[34][35] Melatonin has been shown to stimulate a related enzyme, glutathione peroxidase,[36] and silymarin, an extract of the seeds of the milk thistle plant (Silybum marianum') 'has also demonstrated an ability to replenish glutathione levels.[37][38]
If you look at the website for the supplement www.maxgxl.com you'll find out more about it. I have read the Wikipedia website, and I read it before even starting these supplements. I do not think it is a placebo effect.
