do you think it would be worth looking into getting? the only concern i have is that the dog wouldn't be able to preform its duties enough, and might get sad since i'm at school all day

i could definitely exercise the dog and would definitely help me a lot, but i don't know if the dog has to be more or less a constant companion to be its happiest.

This kind of dog can be a great help. But they are working dogs trained to be with you at all times. In order to qualify you have to meet certain criteria. I looked into this for myself. There is usually a 5 yr wait, the cost varies - usually around $5000. You have to go to where they re located for training. They can be a wonderful thing but they are not a pet, they are an aide. There are a number of programs around the country and each has different terms. Training service dogs is a popular vocational activity in men and women's prisons.

The dog would be expected to go to school with you!

i applied for a service dog about 4 years ago, in GA. they turned me down. it might work for you though.

I think I've already got a balance dog. My little Aussie likes to toss his ball under my feet while I'm walking outside hoping I'll throw it for him. It can be annoying sometimes but keeps me more aware of my feet.
I'm wondering who gives out the diplomas for a service dog? Gus would love to go with me everywhere.
