I had MS and was taking a medicine for the cure . Now after a year I need to have my MRI done to again to see if it got cured or not. My doctor finally gave me a requisition but the MRI place is doing it without a dye. I am confused , should I go for it OR wait till they agree to use the contrast. One of my cousin who is a Neurologist in US said that doing it without a contrast is a waste.
I need help as I do not want to waste the requisition as in Canada it is very hard to get it from your doctor.
thank you for bringing up this old thread - it is a really good one. i didn't understand why they did my MRIs with and without contrast and i understand it completely now.
it makes sense why they are trying to do yours with only no contrast - they are trying to make it much less expensive for them. insurance companies do not want to pay for this now - they won't. in Canada it is different, but it still comes down to money.
you can try to get your dr to have your MRI done w/and without contrast because according to the previous posters, any new lesions will only show up on the w/contrast type and old ones will not.
one previous poster did say that lesions will show up on the regular mri - they all will, so, the new ones and the healed ones too.
your dr can see both??
mostly i wanted to come and say i hear you, i am here with you too.
that is a good idea to ask your dr to please add w/contrast.
