I have come close, but I was able to work through it. I do not like enclosed spaces at all. I made the tech promise they would get me out at any point I needed to. Just knowing I could get out at anytime helped. Also I would just breath slowly and deeply and close my eyes and imagine I was laying at the beach in Hawaii. Once I let the panic get started, it is hard to stop it. Instead I take the time to focus on something else like praying and/or planning something fun to keep my mind busy with positive thoughts. So far it has gotten me through.

The first time I had an MRI, they put big earphones on me. I really think that is what freaked me out and I just couldn't go through with it. The next time, in a different location, they did not give me earphones and I was just fine. But that may have also been due to the Atavan (sp?) they gave me so who knows. If there is a next time, you can be sure no earphones and definitely some drugs! I have never been so unreasonably terrified in all my life as I was that first time! I felt so stupid to be so freaked out! I even kept telling myself that I was being ridiculous and there was absolutely nothing to freak out over but myself wouldn't listen!!!!!

i have had several MRI scans & i am from Sydney Australia btw. But my last relapse set something off in my brain cause i had an anxiety attack while they were doing the scan. I felt like i couldn't breathe etc and of course they had to pull me out. They also needed to scan my neck and back but sent me back up to my room and brought me back down the next day and sedated me for it.
I recently had another and took 20mg of valium and still had a panic attack in the MRI. I went white as soon as i saw the scanner cause the technician asked if i was ok when she walked me in. They had to talk me through it cause i ended up not being able to cope and they even put something over my eyes. So i am now petrified of having MRI scans when i never used to be.

This reaction is very common, some MRI can be doen so that your feet go into the furthest part of the machine instead of your head. I tend to shut my eyes, think of nice things and try ignore the thumping that goes on in one of those machines.
