Methylprednisolone Vs. ACTH for relapse

Hey guys:
Sorry I have not been too active on this site for a while, just been superbusy with a lot of problems. From what I understand Methylprednisolone IV is still the drug of choice for MS relapse, but I wanted to ask you guys what your physicians have done for your guys when you have had an MS relapse? Did they give ACTH or Solumedrol? Was it IV or PO? Thanks for all your help!

just finished a three day drip solumed! Wish I could take it everyday!

I always take the 25 a day of 50mg of prednisone pills for 3 days for the steroid treatment with a relapse that is bad enough that I call the neuro to help me somehow.
The last time I needed to use them was the fall of last year. They usually do work for me after just 5 days I can feel some change in whatevea the BIG problem was that I needed to start treatment for. I think it's 2 weeks to have the issue clear up as well as any MS one does.

He does think that the massive dose of pills is the same as the IV treatment, just easier for some patients to take and be able to stay anywhere/ go anywhere easily by themselves. The ACTH is something that you'd need to take for longer and for the past few years the Prednisone treatments work for me. If/ when they don't anymore I might ask him for that "new" treatment.

ACTH for sure. It is 5 days of a subcue shot or IM. (Do it at home) Works immediately and no side effects like solumedrol. Solumedrol is hard on everything esp bones. Read up on ACTHAR.com. Have to have excellent insurance it is $25,000. Yes that is 4 zeros.

Good luck but I will never do solumedrol again
