Silly as this question may be, do any of you know what the term IU means on a prescription bottle?
How do you gage how much this means?

I meant guage. Spelling is not my strongest suit since MS joined my life! ha ha

Hello!

I think it means International Unit...I've never seen it on a perscription bottle (yet), just on vitamin bottles. Here's the definition:

*the amount of a substance, such as a drug, hormone, vitamin, enzyme, etc., that produces a specific effect as defined by an international body and accepted internationally;

I think it's equal to 1 mg (milligram)...

And I can never spell the word 'gauge' right either!

thank you Jamie! I just picked up a bottle of prescribed vit. D, and it said 50,000IU. So, that is what I was trying to figure out just how many this is! Seemed like a pretty drastic amount!

My dr's office said I was "extremely low", so, I guess they mean it!
So, I am to only take the pill once a week. for a few months! wow!
