My fiance and I are wanting to move and are kicking around our options. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of places we should look into. These are a few of the things that we are taking into consideration. Neither one of us does very well with humidity. We need to find somewhere that has some decent MS docs that aren't too far away. There needs to be an ice rink because my oldest skates and my fiance coaches figure skating. We both do nature photography and want to be reasonably close to a national park or something like it as well as having a decent photography market for us to sell our images. As far as my nursing (if I ever feel well enough to do it again) I'm not too concerned about that because I figure there should be jobs wherever we go. If anyone knows of someplace that they think we should look into I would appreciate the help.

Hmmmm, I live in Colorado. colorado has the highest incidence in MS from what my doc told me and there are a LOT of doctors that know/specialize in it. Photography is awesome, ice rinks are plenty.... cost of living is not too high AND our humidity is typically around 20-30%, unless it rains, which it rarely does. How does that sound?

Colorado also has a number of bases on it to help with a VA connection - my sister lives in Colorado Springs and she's alsways telling me to move. But you have to like snow!

Mikinzi, I live in Colorado Springs and snow??? It maybe snows 4-5 times a year and then its gone by the next day, even that afternoon. Now, if you go to Denver or further into the mountains, you will have more snow.

My husband retired here and we stayed. Was a good choice. :)

That's funny. Even though I am not from there, I was thinking Colorado.. Denver, if the altitude is OK for you! Good luck on your decision making! Please let us know what you decide!

If I were going to relocate, I would seriously consider North Carolina--particularly Ashville because it's been voted one of the best places to live & there was a show on 20/20 once about the "Happiest" places to live & Ashville was the happiest place in the U.S. I've never been there, but everyone says it's beautiful--lots of waterfalls, arts communities, etc.

Asheville is an awesome place for young artists. Extremely convenient to larger NC cities and TN; 4 seasons with reasonable temps and humidity. Also a pretty good cost of living index (moderately priced homes)!

North Carolina might be nice, except for the high humidity. I lived in North Carolina for a year and the humidity was awful, especially in the summer.
Does anyone know anything about Grand Junction, CO? It looks like it might offer some promising options.
The other two areas we are leaning toward are Seattle (but not sure about the rain) and San Francisco (not sure about the cost of living or number of people).

Grand Junction is on the 'other' side of the state, I don't know much about it, other than that the temperatures are high in the summer, but its also low in humidity. Do a search on it and inform yourself. I personally don't do well with temps above 70, but summer is hot here too. The low humidity is what's keeping us here. We lived in GA for a year and the humidity was a killer for both of us. Good luck!

I think Grand Junction is mildly exciting. We go to Colorado three to four times a year, and we love Summit County. Especially Breckenridge, which has a beautiful indoor ice rink. There is also outdoor skating on Maggie Pond in the winter. The humidity is almost nonexistent, and summers are in the 80's. It can snow a lot, but the roads are well maintained, and people spend a lot of time outdoors year round. Real estate can be a bit pricey there, but the surrounding towns are nice and not too expensive. I love it there!

Yeah, RN66, I would recommend Colorado. I lived there for 14 years and I think it's a real nice place to live, for the reasons stated above.
I moved to NC recently only because of my illness.

I don't know why anyone would want to live in San Fran, unless they are allergic to the sun. My daughter lived there for a year. I swear, the sun shines everywhere but San Franciso!

Oh, on Grand Junction, RN66, I don't know much about it. I've been through it many times and it visited the area on at least 2 trips, and I still wouldn't know about the job market and cost-of-living, etc. It's scenic and dry though.

You shouldn't swear in public, Clare.
And I'm with you on the sunlight. While I'm not a sun freak, I still need to see the sun shining outside.
Pittsburgh, PA, is the most depressing city I've ever been in. The sun almost never shines and when it does, it's covered by smog. Yikes!

Well, here is one thought: San Francisco has the UCSF Multiple Sclerosis Center where they are doing some fantastic research on MS (just google UCSF multiple sclerosis). They have a big network of doctors, I understand. I am with another medical organization and do not have direct experience but I hear a lot of things about what they are doing. You can live anywhere cheaper outside of the city and still connect with the UC for care or advice. And as far as the climate? I can tell you with great certainty that the sun shines all the time AROUND San Francisco, just not in it. :0

Oregon is a land of scenic wonders with no end in sight. Lots of photographers here. And Portland has an MS Center at OHSU with Dennis Bourdette as the current director. Roy Swank was the former director. Portland also has a large ice skating population and rinks.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
