Well spoken!
Frankandcookie, I guess money is relative to what job they are doing! My pain management doctor makes about 350 an hour, is that greedy?
I think you should be very proud of yourself for the accomplishments you have, especially where you came from.
I would like to write a letter to god too!
I would ask him, why did I did the kid throw the ball and hit me in the head when I wasn't looking? Why did I have fluke knee injury playing football and the other knee when I was 18? Why did I my baseball coach call the team meeting at 3rd base and then hit a line drive that hit me in the back of the head instead of the kids on either did of me? Why did I sustain a rare thoracic injury working at a tire store so I could save money for school, instead I had surgery? Why did my left shoulder get tore up while trying to play college baseball? It needed surgery. Why did you take my first child? Why do I sustain a second back injury? Why did I get 2 strains of staph. While getting a 2 level lumbar fusion? That wasn't good enough! Why did I almost die from the morphine overdose? Now ms? I forgot the broken foot, wrist and hand, all of them weird fluke type crap! For what? Strength? Character?
Hog wash! I'm weak, losing character and tired!
I know what you are saying, just in a different way! I'm not sure god has much to do with it! Too many variables and everybody is flawed. My twin brother hasn't had shit and he whines far more than I do, he doesn't have a beautiful son, wife or you people!
God bless,
Kevin

I would never be mad at God. I see it all as a lesson. Remember when we were kids and we got grounded a lesson later in life we dont
remember what we did. I too like the MSians it would make a good Tshirt. Another one I like I made a tshirt with a jail cell and under it it says (. you do the crime we pay the dime) came up when mad about how much tax payers pay to have criminals locked up.
Frank
I started back to school officially today, does that mean I have not been back to my classroom? No, I have already put in over 30 hours of nonpaid working time in my classroom over the past week. Why would I do that? Because as a professional I know what it takes to be ready to teach reading to K, first and second graders.
Do I stay after the set time of 3:45 now that we are on the clock? Absolutely! Why? Because I want the best for my students. Will I be working both days this weekend? Yes, because I have a new teacher on my team that needs assistance setting up her room and learning a new teaching program. Do I get paid for any of this? NO!
Do I get reimbersed for the $500+ I have spent this summer for supplies, paper, manipulatives, and learning games...the answer is NO. Why would a single parent do such a thing? Because I want the best for my students. The teachers in our Florida county have not had a step increase or negotiated raise in over 6 years. Our insurance has gone up and benifits down like everyone else in the country. Our wackadoodle govenor is also taking 3% out of the paychecks of teachers, police and firemen to provide for big business a state to come to with little or no taxes - yep that makes sense. Bottom line I am clearing almost $200 less this year than I did two years ago!?
I have been teaching for 18 years, I am National Board Certified in Early Childhood, I have renewed my National Board Certificateha for another 10 years as of last year. I was second runner up in the county for teacher of the year in 2005, and I have my Masters in Reading Curriculum and Instruction K-12.
I am so physically exhausted right now...I currently have 10 herniated discs and the doc is 90% sure of an MS dx. Frank I am venting at your generalization that was directed to apparently all teachers. If you live anywhere close to Florida or will be visiting I would kindly invite you into the classroom of the 21st century. I think that your view will become clearer.
Blessings to you and your family and all of us in pain.

Im glad there are good teachers left out there. My step mother is similar she stays late at her work to help kids with special needs so I give you guys props. I was in my kids class rooms last year. Every year I see good teachers and ones who dont care. Im glad good teachers stay with it for as long as you have. My brother in law is in school right now to be a teacher. I hope he has it in him to be as good as you are. I am sorry you were 200 short on you pay. I know how that fells my pay this year is 30000 less than it was 2 years ago. So It kills me when we cant get stuff like we use to or go on vacations. We make the best of were we are.
I used to blame myself for it, thinking I caused it somehow or could cure it... if I just had enough faith and did everything right. In the beginning of my journey(1987), I thought of MS as a gift from God, like some sort of barometer that would help me remember God. So with every flare up, I'd try to humble myself and be more faithful. I would get better (experience a remission) and think I had done something to deserve that. I would thank God and assume every time I had a remission that, aside from deserving it, I had been miraculously healed. The joy of regaining function was intoxicating and overwhelming... until another exacerbation would hit again. The MS would descend again and so would I.
After years and years of being "reminded" to be humble and more faithful, the MS progressed and now it never goes away. Once those remissions stopped and the MS stayed for good, the MS felt more like a punishment from God rather than a gift from God. As I struggled to just keep going in the face of declining functioning and ability, the idea that God didn't love me or even hated me wouldn't leave. After all, as you say, (like all other MSians) I was good... so why did I have MS?
I grew up in a very strict religion that supported my twisted view of blaming myself... that I had done something somehow to earn such a devastating disease... and that God was indeed punishing me. The MS was getting worse and worse, and it seemed clear that I had really messed up somehow in order to deserve that.
Well, for reasons completely unrelated to MS, I had a crisis of faith that led to me leaving the church and religion in which I'd spent my whole life of 43+ years. Once I gave up many of those religious beliefs, I let go of the idea that God was punishing me, and I stopped asking "Why me?"
In some of the comments that I read, I noticed a lot of people mentioning God, worship, etc... as examples of what strengthens them against MS or even as part of why they think they have MS. For me, giving up religion was a huge key to my ability to cope and function with MS. Now, who knows why I have MS. Science will come up with probable answers... in fact researchers have already pieced together some answers. Those answers are logical reasons... not reasons like that I had done something to be punished for or that I was being tested or reminded to be humble.
Perhaps belief in God is a strength to many, but being stuck in the religious mindset I was in was killing me. When I gave up my faith in the God I was raised with, I became open to finding a strength inside myself... a faithful and amazing strength... rather than looking outside of myself for validation as I struggled so much just to keep going.
Maybe my story won't help anyone else... but I do know that for 23+ years, asking why I had MS was a nonstop event for me, until I stopped believing that there was some God given reason for it. I don't know why I have MS, but I don't think I deserve it and I do know that I'm strong enough to deal with it. I didn't know that before.
Great attitude you've got there.
As for God ... hmph.
Stay cool, happy, and healthy.
