If you are especially anxious about injections, create a ritual around the procedure. Designate a place in your home where you always take your shot. Be sure the area is warm and well lit. You may want to be in a room where you can lock the door so that no one can barge in and surprise you just has you have gotten up the nerve to go for it. Evenings were the best time for me to inject because then I could go to sleep and sleep through the worst of the unpleasant side effects. But with Copaxone, you shouldn't have any. However, some people are too tired at night and prefer to do it earlier in the day. Choose a time that works best for you and stick with it (no pun intended)!
Listening to soothing music, lighting candles, and taking a few deep calming breaths can help you unwind. Some people benefit from a short form a guided imagery to relax the area they are about to inject. This is what I said to myself. I see my muscle relaxing...I feel my warm breath going into the muscle...I feel calm and confident, and I'm grateful to have this healing treatment enter my body. My thoughts are what made me anxious so I tried to calm them before injections nightly.
So yes, this new way of life is real for you, and I know you will be able to do this. Pretty soon it will be old hat!
