I was on Copaxone for almost 2 years & I always seemed to have lump. I finally started adjusting the depth of the needle & found by doing this things got better. Try adjusting your setting a little bit at a time. I also found heat/ice made it worse. Good luck & keep us posted.

Adjust deeper or not as deep??

I have been on Copaxone for over a year, and i'd like to say this get better but it doesn't (completely). You will learn where your body reacts the most, and my advice is this:

Choose the fattiest place possible, i am very petite so i choose to take my injections in my butt, so maybe around there will be best.

I also suggest keeping a box (or a week if your feel more comfortable) out---i suggest in a cabinet. Copaxone will be fine un-refigerated for up to 30 days, i keep mine in the box (unexposed to light, this is what causes damage) and this keeps these room temp and less irritating.

After a while, the bumps will become less painful, and last less amounts of time.

Did someone from shared solutions come out and measure for you autoinject settings? If not I would highly recommend that. I am much larger than you and I use 8 for stomach, 4-6 on thighs and arms depending on which part I am injecting and 6-7 for hips. I think you may have your settings too high.

i have been on copaxone for about month. i experience the same thing, however mine goes away within 24hrs and is more like a bee sting/hive. i also dont think the heat/ice helps either, but i do use the ice after just because. i think there is some very good advice here. i am 5'6 and 145 so i will also look into changing my depth as well.

Katand7kids, I did have the nurse out and she just told me to adjust it to 6....

Holy Moly.... I'm much bigger.. 5'3"-- 153 lbs and I started off with a 6 in my arms/stomach... I use a 4 in my thighs bc they're so muscular.. I like a 4 everywhere and it stopped some of the pain I was having.. Girl, change it ASAP and see if it helps.. I used ice immediately for months.. now it's not so bad but I still have lumps all over me. I put a weeks worth out in my injection bag. Good luck (:

I have been on copaxone 8 yrs now. The lump at the injection site can be resolved with using heat/cold compress with before, after, or both when you do your injection. I have also found that if you do your injection as soon as you get out of the shower the lump is reduced or non existent.

I am 5'5 170lbs. I am a 6 everywhere except my thighs are a 4. If you are able to grab alot of meat go with 6 if you can try the 4. I also take zyrtec to help with itching

Thanks for all of the advice! I tried a 5 today and the lump was the same size and it was more painful.... Shallower then ladies? I'm small but I do have muscle from playing soccer and some yoga and I'm a full time stay at home mom of a VERY active one year old boy. :-) I am trying different things but does it sound like I am going into muscle instead of tissue?

I have been on Copaxone for almost 2 months now and also found that heat before does not help. Sometimes ice after does, but often just seems to make it worse. I have had the hardest time with my legs and after checking with my doctor, I am no longer doing the injection there at all, I do still have the hive looking reaction in the back of my arms too.

If you hit muscle, it will bleed AND be extremely painful for a couple of days. I could not inject in my arms because of my triceps. It would feel like someone punched you in the arm like 10 times. Your nurse should work with your neuro and possibly give you some alternate sites.

Have you tried injecting by hand or are you using the auto-injector?

Well, I would ask if there is another nurse that could come out to measure you. Mine pinched all the way around and wrote everything down for me. I am not going to publicly post my height and weight :-) but let's just say that there is no way that we would measure the same for any area!

I am using the autoject. I did try going shallower on my arm and it HURT. Had the someone-just-punched me feeling for about an hour. My nurse said to probably stay at the 6 for the arms and just trial-and-error for the other sites. Tried 5 on my leg and still got a good sized sore welt. Probably try a 4 on my thigh next time around... Thanks for all of the advice though!! It has helped! I think for me, the heat pack doesn't do anything either way for the reaction but it does sort of help me relax....
