Just make sure that you do NOT take it with calcium. Calcium and iron should be taken 2 hours apart so that they do not bind together and thus getting no benefit from either. Antacids meds will also decrease iron absorption. Reduction in absorption of iron can also be caused by celiacs disease (food sensitivity to wheat/rye-but you can eat rice/potatoes/corn/quinoa) or crohnes disease.

If you are low in D3 you may crave milk a lot (has D3) but all that calcium could block iron absorption.
Are you a vegetarian that is not getting enough iron? If this is the case maybe you need to look at diet to get the iron you need.
Do you have Celiacs? Try to convert to diet without gluten ie quinoa, rice, potatoes corn (corn chips).
Are you on anacids? Maybe talk to your doc about the Heidelberg test/capsule. You might have pH that is too high not too low.
Do you have un-dx Crohns?
Somethings to discuss with your doctor..or not.
Good luck,
