I researched ALS a while ago. As far as I read, there really is no connection except it's neurological and there are a few similar symptoms. My heart goes out to you and your dad.

Thanks Sherie! I didn't think there was a connection but sometimes it is helpful to have someone elses opinion. I have another question though. I am having a really big problem with constipation and they are going to check me for celiac. Do you know anything about this?

My father died from ALS a year and a half ago. I was diagnosed with MS this past December. My neuro (at the same clinic my Dad went to) explained it to me. MS attacks the COVERING of the neurons, and ALS attacks the neurons themselves. There is a definite connection. While thay are different diseases, and MS is rarely fatal, they are similar. My father's case of ALS progressed faster than normal (he passed away 6 months after diagnosis) His, and my doctor both think, and a study is being done to see if ALS is auto-immune as well. I fortunately have (it seems so far) a relatively mild case of RR)Mine mainly affects my sense of balance and I walk a little wobbly sometimes. BTW, my dad was dianosed at 53 and I was 31 when I was diagnosed.In the beginning we were terrified that my "problem" might be ALS as well. My neuro assures me that I am DEFINITELY MS according to physical tests and MRI. I'd like to stay in touch if possible.:)
