I have trained myself. Before I go out, I go to the bathroom whether I feel the need or not. When I'm out I make a mental note as to where a public restroom is. When I'm at home, my bathroom is on the first floor, I never wander too far from it. For other times well, I live on two acres here with a couple of hundred feet of river frontage behind my house. Every day I walk my dogs down to the river's bank to sit in a chair and take in nature's beauty. Anytime I get the urge there (and I have), I have woods behind me!

I have the same problem it really sucks I am only 47.Went to a urologist in June did all the test which for a male just did not seem right but my bladder would contract.He started me on oxybutain I take one pill in the evening before bed it seems to be working only side effect is my mouth is dryer and my nasal passage.I hope things work out for you.

I too have a problem with incontinence and wear a pad. I see a specialist for incontinence at the Kirklin clinic where my neurologist is and she says part of the problem (besides the MS contributing) is related to thinning of the vaginal wall (part of getting older), so she put me on a estrogen cream to use every other day. It has begun to make a real difference along with 1/2 a pill for urgency.

I had this and stayed in denial for so long I can't tell you how much laundry I did! I now use Poise during the day and keep a portable potty chair by my bed at night!

A lot of MSers have this problem. But there is always a solution!

I was wearing diapers to go out and pads at home. I told my neuro and he gave me oxybuntin brand name Ditropan 5 mg, half a pill in the morning and half at night. It works great and I'm happy to report I can miss a dose and not feel the urgency to go.

Bladder problems are common with MSers. I have the opposite problem. I cannot go unless I cath. I just cannot release the muscle that allows us to void. A few of us MSers have this problem. So I have to cath. It just slowly got worse as my MS got worse. But it is a relief to be able to empty my bladder completely by using a cather.

There are options for those of you who are incontinent. There are drugs, there is Botox treatments, there is a surgery that you can get a catheter permanently put in your bladder that empties it into a bag that hangs on your leg. It is called Suprapubic Cystostomy. But that is drastic, but I know 2 people who have had it and they are glad that they did it. They are both in a wheelchair and cannot transfer themselves.

If you are incontinent you definitely need to see a urologist.

I started having problems with leaking in my 35s after the childbirth. It was very tired to take care of the baby and the family. But what mostly embarrassed me is the incontinence problem. My doctor advised that I should do Kegel exercises. I tried it, but there is not any improvement. Actually, the Kegel exercise is not difficult, but how do you know you're making any progress and, honestly, it's something that is easy to forget. Nothing seemed to help me until I tried XFT Pelvic muscle trainer. It is amazing! That little gadget has really helped me a lot. My urinary incontinence disappeared in 3 months after the training! I learned that other MSers who have incontinence are also helped by cathing, bsides the ons who cant void. It helps empty the bladr before you go out.
See a urologist and discuss your issues. Sometimes it takes a few docs before you find one you like. good lck. this can be helped.

Amitriptyline is not for incontince. I take it for migrates.

Yes and I have attend on standby,it's usually after a med change or increase. so it comes and goes.
