I had horrible pain after my spinal as well. After 4 days, I called my doctor and she prescribed Vicodin. I was just fine after that. I've also heard there is something called a "blood patch" you can have done but I do not know what that is.

Go to the ER. Pain should last for a day. You may have spinal fluid leaking into your system. That would cause your kind of pain.

Change docs. If he is not willing to help with pain or at least find out why it is there, he does not deserve your money.

I was told by my Dr. that when I have my spinal tap I should only have minimal pain for a day and if it's any worse, then I need to go back to them a.s.a.p.

What you are having is I think something they call a spinal headache. As long as you lay down flat it is not bad but if you move the pain is through the roof. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids. I think I read somewhere that the fluid that was removed needs to be replaced. I tried a muscle relaxant when I had mine and that made me constipated. After I took a laxitive and had plenty of fluids mine went away.

Hi there, I have also suffered terrible pain. Mine is the spinal headache, it lasts about a week and a half. All the doctors tell me is to drink a lot of fluids and lay flat in bed. I too have a busy life and gringe every time they say I have to have one. It is nessisary so they can see what's going on with you. Hang in there, you're not alone! Linda

I also had the spinal headache. Doc was going to do the blood patch but I didn't really want anyone near the area again. I just get meds to deal with the headache. Your doc should know about this if he performed the spinal

is the pain in your back or your head or both? If it's only in your head, pump up on caffeine. The ER would give this to you too. Somehow it counteracts with the leaking spinal fluid. I had to go to the hospital a few days after my spinal due to the horrible pain and headache - they gave me drugs, put me on iv's then put me on caffeine and solumedrol and told me it's positive I have MS. I was only there for two days, when I was released, it was soo much better

When I had my spinal done I was in terrible pain also. My pain was more in my neck and head. I felt at times I was going to die from the pain. My doc did a blood patch and my experience was horrible with that. I blew the patch out within 4 hours. You can't sneeze or cough to soon afterwards. Anyway I found that with an ice pack and pain meds and lying flat for a few days I felt better. The ice pack really helped. It eased the pain in my neck and made it possible to sit up for a little while. Good luck and best wishes.

Go to the ER as soon as you can and have a blood patch done - yo have spinal fluid leaking and the hole from the spinal tap will not heal without this blood patch. All they do is take some blood from your arm and patch the point where the original injection was taken. This is something your doctor should have made very clear to you before or after the procedure - I would pay him a visit and ream him out if he/she did not mention this!

Thank you everyone! I am feeling much better today. My pain was mostly in my neck, I swear I'd rather be in labor!!! It was very frustrating because nobody understood the pain in my family, they all thought it was because I was in bed for so long! My husband had the nerve to tell me last night "We all think you have so much pain because you're staying in bed so much" imagine my anger! I told him I am aware of what everyone thinks and I really could care less. . .how about putting your b*lls in a vice-grip for four days and getting up and moving around! (sorry guys). Anyway, I have minimal pain now, in my back at the injection site, and a little in my head. You have all been so wonderful and supportive. Truthfully, I don't know that I could go through this again. . .right now I say NO! lol. God so graciously took the pain away yesterday so I could attend church, so I'm taking it easy. Thanks again!

I have to have a spinal done on this wed. I am so nervous and afraid! After reading all of this I am really afraid....:) I have put it off once but now I have to have it done....doctor insists....I am so happy that your doing better and could attend church. Praise God!!

I am sorry so many of you had so much pain with your spinal, my doc must be really slick dong, he just had me sit on edge of hospital bed hold a pillow and did it, I suffered no pain or anything. So maybe your docs just aren't that good at that particular procedure.
