If it gets worse, i'd call the doctor asap.
Hope you get a handle on it soon.
Have only just been dx with diverticulardiverticulitis so trying to get my head around that.
This has sprung up sudden now (the not pee). How many days am I safe to wait to see a dr again do you think? I know your not Dr's but some clues? We are coming into the weekend, have a wedding to go to tomorrow & dont want to miss that as the friend has had such a bad time leading up to it & losing friends it would hurt her too much.
praying & hoping I pee real soon so it isnt a scare. I cant see my Dr over the w/end & dont want to talk to a new one.
Sorry to go on but I am scared about this as have had uti's before & they were bad, have had an operation to fix that area as well as bowel surgery. This scares me & I dont even want to even think about it but cant forget about it as it keeps spasming too.
Thanks so much for listening. It helps so much.
I have started going a trickle occasionaly so hopefully it will fix itself, otherwise I will go back to my gp this week.
Another set of appts - great - not.
incontanace and retention issue are hard totell apart .
Retention issues you are treatbill with meds. Retention or having to go and can only get a little bit out they can give you meds thathelp you go and dont have the urgency feeling all the time it can feel like a nitemare.
Valium low dose will relax the urinary spinkter and allow you to pee and empty the bladder 2 mg 2 to 4 times a day does wonders but the uroligist will tell you if it is a MS thing or something else but hte test are not fun
I had an apointment with a bladder specialist; however, my husband was "in-between" jobs and we lost our previous insurance...so waiting on another aptmt. After what CharChar said...I'm NOT looking forward to any more tests! However, I AM tired of peeing on myself...especially in public! LOL! Let us know what you find out!? ;)

It has been a while since I have posted on DS, mainly because I find it difficult to give a short answer. That being said, this is what I know about this issue.
It is important to work with your doctor, and always give specific details and ask many questions! Catheterization, done by you or by a medical professional, is not usually the starting point because it is considered to be invasive. Introducing a urinary catheter, even using sterile technique, increases the risk for infection. The urinary system is a closed sterile system within the body, so most doctors will not want to introduce that catheter unless it is absolutely necessary. Residual urine, (urine that stays in the bladder after urination), that is a significant amount that causes pain and/or discomfort, is one of the reasons catheterization would be done right away.
The ability of the bladder to store urine requires a relaxed bladder muscle. The bladder normally fills gently and does not squeeze until a person urinates. With bladder spasms, the will just bladder randomly contract. As the bladder begins to squeeze, most people sense the need to urinate, urgency is the term used for this issue. If a person doesnt urinate at that time of urgency, the contraction of the bladder muscles strengthens in an attempt to force urine out. This is called urge incontinence and urine may leak in large or small amounts, and the flow may not be stoppable voluntarily. Urge incontinence can occur at any age. Urge incontinence which results from these random bladder contractions has alternative names as well, such as overactive bladder, irritable bladder, spasmodic bladder, unstable bladder and detrusor instability.
The cause of bladder spasms is not completely understood, some people who have had strokes or have neurological diseases may have issue with bladder spasms. Bladder infection and irritation from certain foods can also produce these spasms.
There are several non-invasive things that may be done if bladder spasms are diagnosed as your issue.
Bladder training - A pattern of urination based on time, rather than on desire, can help retrain the bladder. The time between urinations is gradually increased until a urination interval is reached that allows the fewest urinary accidents. The urinating routine must be followed to retrain the bladder.
Medication - Various drugs help relax the bladder. Unfortunately, this family of medications also has side effects, most commonly dry mouth and constipation. Sometimes these side effects can limit the amount of medication that a person can and will take.
This class of medication is called anticholinergics and spasm-relieving drugs. The drugs included are darifenacin (Enablex), dicyclomine (Antispas, Bentyl), flavoxate (Urispas), hyoscyamine (Anaspaz, Levbid, Levsin), methantheline (Banthine, Pro-Banthine), oxybutynin (Ditropan, Ditropan XL, Oxytrol), solifenacin (VESIcare), tolterodine (Detrol, Detrol LA), and trospium (Sanctura). Ditropan XL and Detrol LA are the most commonly prescribed due to their effectiveness in many different types of people.
Electrical Stimulation - The nerves which supply the bladder may be overactive, causing bladder spasms. Electrical stimulation blunts the effect of these nerves and relaxes the bladder. For females, a vaginal device is inserted and delivers a weak, painless current.
Pelvic Floor Exercises - The pelvic floor muscles stretch from the pubic bone to the lower back. These muscles support pelvic organs, including the bladder. Urinary incontinence can be improved in some patients, but not all, by the exercising and strengthening of these muscles.
I hope this isnt over kill, but hopefully, it will give you information to find the right method to correct and/or make this issue tolerable for you.

tquiver, sorry you are going through similar issues too.
I am on valium already (5mg at night) & they dont want to give me more. I am on a lot of medications. I do the bladder exercises every day as I never wanted this to happen, already had 1 bladder operation & that was painful & didnt last 12 months.
Thank you rebecca for all your information too, it helps to understand it a bit more. Please dont not respond because your posts are long, they are good information & if it is long we can always read it in bits over time as we can take it in.
I think I must have a mixture as yesterday I had the opposite problem.
Couldnt stop the leaking & needed to go more, sometimes not much happened. This is what happened yesterday, luckily I was wearing a pair of pants with 900ml pad (thick). We went to the wedding & I went the loo before it. Left the wedding looking for a McDonalds or similar to have a coffee & while away the 2 hours till reception. By the time we found one I knew I had been leaking bits & needed a loo but as soon as I stood up to get out of the car I just went & couldn't stop the flow at all. I was so upset that I had no control. We went into McDonalds & the toilets were upstairs - great, I struggled to get up crab wise & used the loo. Lucky I had been wearing heavy pants with big pad & hadn't gone through it. I was so embarrassed when I stood up & went like that I just wanted to cry. David was great, he just said go to the toilet & if we have to buy more we will find a supermarket open. I was surprised it was still ok.
Now I really am going to try to get help asap even if it means letting them know over the phone how bad it is & swinging from one to the other so I dont know what is going to happen or what pads to wear. Usually I would have had a super pad on & that would not have been enough this time so how to work out when to wear which is going to be a problem now.
I'm very confused now as well as worried & scared. How can I go from nothing to major leak in 24 hours & cope with the possibilities. What do I take with me & what if it happens at work? As if ms & everything else isnt bad enough, now I have this uncertainty.
Thanks for listening.
I do not think the Dr you saw was worth a flip. Hope you do not mind me saying so. Did he even bother to be sure you did not have another UTI? Because if you do and he did not check for that and treat it, you could be doing more damage to yourself as if there is any infection, it will move up to your kidneys and then you could have much worse problems.
I do not have major bladder issues with my MS but do have spasms at times so I can only partially relate to you. However, I have had bad UTI's before and its a horrible thing to have and it can get extremely painful and critical before much time passes.
I would hope you get back to another Dr and as already mentioned, it sounds like its time to get to a Urologist if that is possible.
Another thing I wanted to mention and I know its kinda gross but at the same time, it seems to be a good item for those of us that are not able to get up and down of of the low sitting toilets, etc.
You may already be aware of this but its a thing that lets us girls stand up and tinkle. Now, while that sounds silly it is a good thing for if you are in a bathroom and can't get up and down or if you have to go out in the woods. It looks sort of like a funnel and you place it up against your body and let it rip! Its not so large that you could not carry it in a large purse or just carry another tote for that kind of stuff in your car to have when you need it.
Now, the problem is that I can't remember right now what the thing was called but I do know that it was first seen by us in a sporting goods catalog as it was for us girls while out in the woods and not wanting poison ivy on the tush!
I will try to find it for you and post where you can get it but in the meantime, you really need to see a Urologist as soon as you can (I think).
Another thing I wanted to mention only because it seems like the obvious and do not know why the Dr would not have been a little more concerned.
It sounds like your bladder is so full that maybe that is why it started leaking like it did. It can only hold so much and since you were unable to urinate for so long, it had to eventually do something. The thing that bothers me though is that if you do have any infection, its going to back up to the kidneys.
I apologize if I was too opinionated but your situation concerns me.
Once I find that item I mentioned, I will post a website where you can check it out.
I am allowed to post a website here, right??
Take care and I certainly hope you can get this tended to as I know you must be miserable.

ANd of course, the ones that are disposable are much cheaper and is probably what I would do with myself as the other funnel type would be difficult to carry in a purse but would be great to pack for camping.
The Dr didnt check for uti or anything, going to try to get into different dr for 2nd opinion.
Thanks heaps everyone
Couldnt get into the dr till late this arvo then it got cancelled as no power, we are having storms & have lost electricity a couple of times. There are trees down & damage all over. Winds were 100km & expected to get worse so not going to be a fun night. Wonder if the trains will run tomorrow for me to get to work? Wont mind that much if they dont LOL.
Hope for some relief soon.
