I would like to get some insight on what type of mattress you have, as we all know we have pain and we also spend a lot of time in bed. When I bought our bed we got a beauty rest firm real firm, we got that because it was supposed to help if you had a bad back and of course because we were younger (ok stop laughing and you know who you are) Well anyways now it seems like it makes my muscles tighten up at night and gives me like pressure point soreness.
Does this happen on any bed or have any of you changed to a harder or softer bed and did it help? Also any suggestion of a certain brand and does anyone have one of those dial a number bed?
We all spend a lot of time in bed and I have not seen any post on this subject, or maybe it don't make a difference to anyone.
Also does anyone sleep with a pillow between their legs to help with back pain? and do you think it helps?

We bought the Sleep Number bed several years ago. What I like asbout it is that I am sometimes nuts--- Bed is to hard, bed is too soft, and sometimes it is "Just Right". My number ranges from 25 all of the way up to 85. We really like it other than the pillow top foam went to hell. They wanted several hundred dollars to replace it wit htheir foam. A nice sales lady at the store said foam padding from overstock.com was just as good. We did that for under $100.

I am thinking we bought our queen size pillow top on sale for about $1,100 which is high, but not atronomical.

I would probablyu buy one again.

I have a Select Comfort a knock off of the Sleep Number, it's about 1/2 price. It's nice to be able to adjust the firmness and I've had mine over 7 years with no problems. As for the bed being too high, you can buy a low profile box spring and drop the bed over 4".

I think a memory foam topper improves any mattress:) But we have a Stearns and Foster mattress with a medium firmness. We got it pre dx, we had a pillow top and my back was giving me problems so we sold it. Our Stearns and Foster with the memory foam is soooo comfortable, I rarely have sore spots (I don't think I can avoid it 100% no matter what I sleep on). I still wake up with my muscles feeling stiff sometimes, but I think it does a great job keeping me as comfortable as possible. I sure miss my bed when we travel. We even put a memory foam on our trailer mattress:)
I do sleep with a pillow between my knees that helps my lower back.
