Over a year ago I started having swalloing difficulties. I was assessed and it seemed to bt due weak muscles on one side of my throat. I was sent home and told to eat carefullly.
Just had a follow up yesterday. I asked if there were any exercies to help strengthen the throat muscles. She said sure, printed out a page with four exercises and asked me to call her in a month if there was any improvement, as she was very curious to know.
Firstly, I was surpried, sort of, that no one ever mentioned trying to strengthen the muscles.
Secondly, it appears that no one has looked into whether or not strengthening can be beneficial, even thouhgh it comes from a neurological problem.
Lastly, has anyone tried this and what were your results?

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
Might be worth a try.
Exercises can help & are well worth doing. I had the swallowing & speech difficulties & they keep rearing their heads often so that I have to slow speech, eat carefully & sometimes go to softer foods etc.
When it happens I get out the exercises with different sounds/words & do that & concentrate on breathing, drinking with food, eating easy to digest food (bread is a real issue for me) & cut up fruit into small bits to eat & often peel too.
Keep going with the exercises, they should help in time, they sure wont hurt.
