And I want to interject here b/c I've been needing to vent about this issue.. a lady in this town travels to the same school as my childrens.. She drives by my house on the way.. She's always been nice and few times has helped me out in a pinch and says my girls are so kind and "anytime".. Well, I've offered to pay her to transport them in the mornings only and she said she would "get back to me" I sent $ the last time she picked the kids up for me.. but she never agreed to helping me out more. I despertely needed her last week when I had to go for my swallow study and she told me NO b/c she needed to study with her daughter in the car. I know this woman is not obligated to me in any way-- but what happened to just doing the right thing? God knows if I knew of a family in our situation and could help out, I'd do it with my entire heart and soul and feel good about it ! Especially, b/c I was trying to pay her which helps her overall gas expenses. I've tried not to be offended by this and greatful for the times she did help out but I don't understand people.. Just saying.. Am I wrong?

No, Stacey you are not wrong. I'm like you and would do anything I could to help another and this would have been so easy for her and like you said, would have helped her with her gas expenses. No... I just don't understand this one.

Stacey, you are not wrong. You aren't asking anything of her that will be putting her out. There is no reason why someone in her position can't help someone in your position, especially with giving her help on the gas. It doesn't make sense.

I never wanted to take the responsibility of other children because it was time consuming, a risk of an accident and lawsuit, also it limited my freedom to go anywhere after school.

Alma, I was the same way in certain situations with my kids and being responsible for others. Luckily we loved close to all the schools, so I did participate in carpools at times because I could drop the kids off and still run errands after if necessary. My choice was to be the morning driver, so I could drop off and then go. I did decline an invite for one carpool because there were too many kids. When I said I didn't have enough seats/seat belts, one mother said that she was just going to have her kids sit on the floor of the van, it was close and would be ok. I said NO WAY! But what Stacey is asking wouldn't take away from this mothers ability to run errands, it's just a ride there, not home. Another possibility to avoid a lawsuit if there was an accident is to sign a waiver. We had them for our carpools. But Stacey, maybe it's beyond trying to see why she is hesitant to help..?

Alma, I certainly wasn't trying to interrupt our positive list we have going here- not my intent- just made me think.... And this girl works for our best friend. She's not a stranger by any means. It was only for the morning time and she has an SUV with plenty of room and commented on how much her smaller children enjoyed my girls riding with them. Even if she had said she could help 3 days a week... Just saying.. I go out of my way to help others so I don't understand..
