I have had some things happen in the past few years and I have no idea what it is... I am going to describe a few things. Any in put would be helpful to my understanding as to what a MS hug is or is not and weather or not I have been having this symptom.
I have had several attacks where I wake up and all of the sudden I begin to feel a tightening in my stomach... this builds to severe pain. I describe this as worse than labor pains... it builds like a contraction and peaks...but it stays at that peak and does not let up...at that time I am wallering around on the floor or bed or couch... the pain is intense... these have lasted from 45 min. to 1 hour and 30 min. Once it stops it is gone... no pain and I resume back to my normal activities. After washing my face ...The tears...
I once while working at my job had this pain start in my upper back... I asked to go to the nurse it took 45 min for them to relieve me. This pain had wrapped around me and I felt like I was being squeezed from behind whit a fist in my stomach above my belly button. It would ease up if I stopped working...I work an assembly line building engines so it was rare for the line to stop for more than a few seconds or so... Once relieved and I stopped working it eased... this one left me with a feeling of having been kicked by a horse.
I have had tightening in my chest that wrapped around to my back. I only remember this being on one side...the pain was pretty bad...and lasted a few hours before easing up.
I often feel like my bra all of the sudden gets to tight. this feeling is just a discomfort. and is felt all the way around... I will remove the bra!!! I started wearing a sports bra that was a size too big for this reason but even still... I get that feeling.
I often get pains just under my right boob.Enough that I will hold my hand where the pain is...
I have had my gallbladder removed and I get a fluttering pain just under the rib cage in that same area.
I have a hemangioma just under the skin on the right side just about where the bra goes and I feel discomfort in that thing... I have now come to realize it is my back muscles tightening that makes me feel the hemangioma more.
Any thoughts about all of this or any of this would be great in helping me to understand IF any of these things could be the MS hug. I have not yet been diagnosed. I am in that process of ruling MS in or out. I go for another brain MRI and a week or so... but I have wondered if any of these are that HUG or not...

The first is a constrictive feeling from the bottom of my ribs up, it does heighten, lasts maybe 30-45 seconds, but does not hurt.
the second is in my back, between my shoulder blades. Starts as a tingle and heightens to a point where it feels as if the muscles are gathered and pushed toward the center (spine) from either side. Alarming, but without pain.
However, I used to get 'phantom' pain. Mostly in my upper back and upper legs. Now this was agonizing and once lasted between 30 and 32 hours. Nothing made the pain go away, hence my termed name, phantom pain. It has not happened to that degree in quite a while, but every so often I will receive this in short bursts, that is more or less like a 'phantom' of the phantom pain.
Gentle hugs, Linda
