I've been having a hard time thinking about getting a cane. I think I need one as I have fallen in the past and not to long ago I was in a small local store and down I went. Lucky for me the owners know about my MS and helped get me behind the counter. My neighbor lady said the proper way to use a cane is to use it on the opposite side.
This makes no sense to me as I want it to be able to put weight on the side I feel the weakest on. I'm lost on this and need input. I'm also having a hard time mentally with the thought of even needing a cane. I know use a walking stick but only at home so no one see's me.
I know this is just a device to assist me so why am I having such a hard time. I know something is changing in my body and I guess I just want to be ready but I just feel that MS is taking something else from me and I only have so much to give. I should be happy I can still walk and I feel so bad even talking about this when there are members who can't walk but I've always kept things bottled up and in and I also know this is not healthy.

I also carry a cane because of balance issues. Have for a year or so. It's just become second nature.
A cane is the only self-defense tool that can go anywhere; I've taken mine a commercial flight without a problem. In fact, the staff was falling all over themselves to assist me!
