Well it's a good question.
All I know is if I would get pulled over and tested,I'd come out like you.if the do a breathizer I'd pass,but if they did a urine and blood test I'd be guilty of DWI. just from the medicines I and most take. Just because our medicines are Rx'd by a Dr. I took it and I drove so it would be my fault.

In Australia you have to notify the drivers license issuers that you have ms then jump through hoops with your Dr's signing forms that you are fit to drive etc.
Best idea is to contact the local ms society & see if they have a card that you can get that is an id as well with your photo from the ms society & on the back lists some of the things that ms present with like what you said.
If they don't have it make a suggestion that it would be a good idea.
That would be my suggestion.

I have heard people having a medical bracelet. That might be a good ideal to get one.

I've been told that the police are trained in symptoms of dieases, although I don't know how extensive their training is.

If I were asked to walk a straight line, heel to toe, I'd tell them I can't do that under normal circumstances. They have several field sobriety tests they can give you that don't involve walking.

Keep a cane in your car "just in case" and use it if they want you to get out of the car.

My husband is a Police Officer and he told me that a Medid Alert bracelet that says Multiple Sclerosis on it will be fine. If I feel I need to clear myself further I'll ask to blow the breathilizer. Though if I am or anyone else pulled over for reckless driving ( swerving like some of us do when we're tired) don't be surprised if your car is in pounded until you can call so they can then drive you home. As far as receiving a ticket for unsafe driving habits, that is totally up to the officer that stopped you. SMILE AT THE OFFICER & HOPE HE/SHE ISN't HAVING A BAD DAY.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately, because I do swerve quite often. Only because I'm always tired, always medicated. I avoid driving as much as possible, and don't want to lose my license, but how do we know if we should just stop driving altogether? I can't imagine that happening to me, because I work and have four kids. I don't know how I could survive without driving. But maybe I'm being selfish...?

I keep mine off of license because 1) I don't want in imposed retrictions 2) Just another reason for the insurance company to rate me at a higher risk-- therfore charging a higher premium.

Good point Steve....... this subject is a no win situation as far as I can tell.

Officers may not know what MS meens. My police department only knows because of me. If you r ever in a crash Medics r called and should know what it means. When officers r trained medical things r rarely discussed because if there is a question or concern medics are callec.......in my area at least

@ mamak,, to quit driving requires a lot of thinking. I gave up my
license 4 years ago, after driving 40 years with no tickets, and
only 1 wreck. The last few years I drove, I drove with hand-controls.
This involved testing every year, driving and parking, here in Ohio.
Everything was good, but the time came when I started thinking
about hurting someone else. I did a lot of talking to my wife, and
we decided it was better being safe.
Now I not only have MS, but I'm also taking Warfarin, a blood
thinner. So we have been thinking of getting me a bracelet listing
both MS and Warfaren. At the moment I carry a paper in my wallet,
listing all my meds, prescribing physicians, and my name, phone
number and birth-date. From experience, it's easy to give to
Medics when they come to help me. I keep a file on my
computer and print a copy of it so I can keep it updated and give
to doctors when I go for office visits.
Another poster I have here says
"I'm not drunk, I have MS". Need to put that on my wheel-chair. LOL

I have had to stop driving due to falling asleep behind the wheel.
