Hi Sherie! I have it most often in one lower leg, and for the longest time I thought I'd ruptured my Achilles. Pain, severe cramping as if being crushed.. I also get a stinging sensation. One minute, I get up to walk and I'm fine. Later, I limp and wince. A few nights ago, the quadricep right about my right knee knotted up, it felt like I had taken a hit from a baseball bat (as a former tomboy, I know that feeling well!) visibly swelled up, and the movement in my knee was compromised. I think it's spasicity. I hope your neuro can find you something that will help! -Julz

Hi Sherie, I also get very bad pain along with burning and stinging. I get spasms like charlie horses in my neck and shoulders. I also take Baclofen and sometimes it does not help me either. My doctor went from 1 3x's a day and added 2 at bedtime. I helps sometimes. The thing I like about my Neuro., he will not stop until he finds something to help me. I pray that your Neuro will do the same for you! Best wishes.

Spasticity can cause a number of uncomfortable sensations. Your muscles might feel heavy and fatigued. You might feel like your muscles are constantly contracted -- like when you consciously try and tense up all your muscles before relaxing them completely. Finally, you might experience what both Julz and crj refer to -- full-blown, "charlie horse" spasms where the affected limb either shoots straight out, or draws up and can only be moved with difficulty.

Baclofen is a common first line drug for loosening those tightened muscles. It worked well for me for several years, and then I found that the drug was loosening me up too much and causing weakness. I switched to Tizanidine (generic for Zanaflex) which is an anti-spasticity drug that was specifically developed for those with spinal cord injury/neurological disease.
