When diagnosed with my diagnosing episode which affected my right hand my handwriting was very bad. Its gotten better, but it did freak me out at first. Handwrighting is suppose to be personal and tell sopmething about a person's personality...before MS mine did. After MS itr doesn't and still doesn't. In a way after my diagnosing episode I had to teach myself how to write again, I hafd to keep telling myself it is easier than it was the first time, because this time I already know the alphabet & the first time I had to learn how to hold & move a pen/pencil + I had tp learn the alphabet. This tome I only have to learn how to hold and mobve a pen so this time is easier!
But even as it improved sometimes I got very frustrated at what was on the paper,,,,it wasn't mine! My father who is left-handed and has had very messy handwriting forever, says mine looks better than his.Mine is more legible--but I don't like it, its not MINE! I guess I have to get used to my post-MS handwriting BUT it doesn't say anything about my perosonality like my pre-MS
handwriting did.
My post-MS handwriting says life has left me with some experiences. Bummer is, no one but me knows. Someone who gets something I wrote thinks it is my normal----like my dad's handwriting.

I prefer to type notes on the computer now, then print them out.

I agree with nnyl1, I prefer the computer now. It is weird how bad my handwriting has gotten. It was never neat in the first place--people always said I should be a doctor it was so illegible, but now that I read this post and I think about it YEAH, it HAS gotten worse... Must be an MS thing. And I struggle to actually write too! Like the act of writing is hard. It doesn't make my arms hurt, but it kind of...makes me struggle mentally. Like I can't quite force those letters to look right. Hmmm....

I just thought I got so used to typing everything that my handwriting suffered, but no, it's the MS for sure

i've always been a computer person so i really haven't noticed a change in my handwriting BUT my typing is terrible!!! i'm much slower now and i make typos all the time.

I also used to play guitar hero competitively and had to stop. my eyes don't process the info fast enough and my hands just don't do what i want them to do very well anymore.

I know that isn't handwriting, but still in the same ballpark.

When I'm having problems with my right side I can't read my writing at all. Last fall and then again for a few weeks last month I couldn't read my hand writing at all.

The most frustrating thing for me was that I couldn't write a grocery list. I had to leave my boyfriend to write the list on his own. It drove me crazy not being in charge of that!

Thankfully my handwriting is back to normal for now but who knows for how long

After so many years of MS, I have suddenly started having problems with my handwriting. Sometimes it's because of spasm and sometimes it's because of weakness in my hand and arm, but always it means my scrawl becomes illegible. When I filled out my passport application a few weeks ago, my hand spasmed in mid signature and left it looking kind of strange . . . fortunaty they were satisfied with it, but it's so weird when you suddenly loose control of something as automatic as writing your name.

I like to tell people I couldn't forge my own signature anymore. It changes each time I sign.

my handwriting has deterioated extremely but mostly to the tremors in my arms while i try to write. It is most embarrassing when i go to sign a check in front of the teller at the bank. i can only imagine what they are thinking. I often imagine that they think i am in need of a drink or a fix. I enjoy doing word puzzles and the tremors have kept me from doing as many as i normally would complete. It is just so frustrating and extremelyyyyy hard to let go of the things you used to love doing and not can no longer do or really enjoy doing. Have you experienced any of these tremors?

My handwriting has got real bad & my signature varies all the time.
I dont know if the ms society does it there (if they dont I would suggest it) but here we can apply for a ms id card which has our photo & signature on it. On the back it has a few of the main things of ms - like may appear drunk but its ms & signature etc.
i have just showed this & never had signature queried then. If its hot, I am tired etc mine is real bad.

Mine comes and goes, depends on the day and how much i do with my hands that day

Handwriting is a problem, and almost unreadable.
Signatures is anyway almost unreadable, so its not a big problem.

Computer (and my iPhone) is help for making notes, and having recent notes available.

My right hand started getting "tired" before I got the MS-diagnose (Im right-handed), so Ive moved the "mouse" to my left hand. Now Im able to use mouse on both hands. It was "hell" the first 14 days, but now my left hand is my prefered "computer-mouse" hand.

Still it doesnt do anything for my handwriting, but I feel comfortable with seeing Im not the only one with writing problems.

I'm finding it comforting that so many others have difficulty with their handwriting, as do I. Back in the day, I attributed it to lack of sleep, too much sugar, you name it. Little did I know it was one of the first signs of MS. Now, I seem to write better in the evening when I'm more relaxed and have made it thru the pressures of the day.

My handwritting is worse than a kindergartner. I am right handed and at the bank if my hand isn't tremoring it is so difficult to hold the pen and script my name so I am getting a signature stamp made and also try to do hand exercises to keep my muscles in tact...it's very upsetting but what can you do?
