One question for clarification, what type of cane are you looking for?

1.) walking stick cane
2.) cane with four legged bottom
3.) Forearm cane

Walking stick cane. I do not need it for balance. Just to lean on when muscles spasms.

I use a walking stick when I go out, available in the sporting goods department of Walmart for $13.99. The tip is fairly small.

I also just got a hurrycane, which has a tripod - three rubber feet on a head that pivots. A friend has one and loves it, I like mine too. It will stand on a flat surface only - not on carpet.

I'm afraid I would trip over a quad cane.

I got a great cane that i get a lot of compliments on. It is a walking stick from a outdoor store (like where they sell camping stuff and Patagonia clothes and tents and good stuff like that). Anyway, they have these walking sticks or canes that are very artsy--lightweight and a L shaped handle. The nice thing about them are they are very light weight wood but they are solid wood. You can paint on them and make them even more individual. They are fun.

They cost $35 but they are worth it. They last forever. I bought two and they will last forever. I absolutely love them. They are not U-shaped so they don't hang up easily but that doesn't matter for me. So totally worth it--you will get compliments on it forever.

I own 5 of the foldable aluminum canes. One in each vehicle, plus a spare just in case I accdidently take one out of the truck. I have been known not to come back to my truck with the cane.

I like these because they are light and I can fold it up to fit in/on a scooter or any place else that a full size cane would be i nthe way.

Try it out in the store. I bought one that was uncomfortable and ended up taking a real nasty fall.

I've only been using a cane for about 6 months, and like you I don't use it all the time.

My first one was a simple fold up aluminum one similar to the ones Steve described. It did the job ok (my problem is more balance issues than anything) but I just wasn't real confident in it.

So, I decided to go with something a little better and did some research. Based on that research I purchased the Hurrycane from Amazon and I LOVE it!

It will stand on its own if you have a solid flat surface, which is really nice. It comes with a strap you can put around your wrist if needed. The 'conforming' type base really gives me the stability I need when I'm not on a flat surface, that I wasn't getting with the more simple cane.

It is also folds up so you can stash it away when you need to.

I highly recommend it.

What I have been using for years, is something called a "quad cane."
Not heavy to walk with & can be left on it's own. Helps me handle my
poor balance & walk where I want.

Never heard of a hurry cane.

I have a HurryCane, and use it for similar reasons, as well as dizziness. I like it pretty well, except on thick carpet and uneven ground.

check with you local MS chapter ask for the loan closet maybe you can describe what you are looking for and they just might have it at no charge.
