I always felt I did not have the time or the energy yo go to meetings. Between work and the kids activities, I did (do) not need another thing to do.

I love my local support group. My sister told me not to go, that it would be a pity party, but it's hard to feel sorry for yourself when we're all in the same boat. I initially went to see what others looked like, so I'd know what I might expect in the future. We meet once a month except in the summer; one month is a social gathering in a local restaurant, and alternate months we have a topic. I have met some wonderful people there. I'm 58 and most appear to be younger than I. The common thread is not our age (I could join red hats for that), but that we're all in this together.

I'm with "Hummingbird"...I LOVE my local MS & Epilepsy support groups I attend once a month. Personally I joined to see what it was actually like having these 2 diseases...even though with the Epilepsy group I'm around people who are caretakers to their children with Epilepsy. I have actually gotten much benefit from the group because it's an Epilepsy Couples Group & that helps form a stronger bond between me & my Fiance around me being sick & in general, which is awesome. Also I do learn allot from the other group members, even though they don't personally have Epilepsy themselves, just by them sharing their childrens stories & vice versa.

Regarding the MS Support group I attend...Even though I may be in my early 30's & every one else there is older, it's not about that. It's about the fact that we all can understand, like here, that we all come together, in a common area & we all have a disease that we can share similar experiences about.

With BOTH support groups at times we share stores where we might cry, we might get mad about the way doctors treat us or the way medi-cal or whatever insurance we have treats us or whatever treats us or even still where we we may share stories where we laugh our asses off.

It's allot like here...It's just in person, face to face. Getting to put a face to a disease, to see what it really truly looks like to be this way...not just in our own mirrors.

So, if the typing here makes you feel less alone, to know others go through it as well...well, face to face, personally makes me feel even more less alone, cause I can truly see that I'm not alone. :-)

P.S...At the MS group there is a lady that has Epilepsy caused by MS, (like me as well), so that's (not fun to have) but nice to meet someone else in real life that goes through both diseases as well & we both have someone else to share the "fun" MS/Epilepsy journey with.

I haven't been to a local support group but I kinda feel like I'd get let down from the fact that I'm sure the people are a lil bit older than me..I know I can learn from others n hear stories blah blah but if I'm 27 not married what's the use of seeing older people gather..its frustrating not seeing or speaking to people ur own age or in ur situation..tho I do see the benefits its just a preference for people

Sorry, I didn't need MS to get a bigger heart. I already had one. As my husband used to say, "she brings home kids like some bring home cats". I raised many kids that need a home. My heart is huge.

And from others that I have gotten to know on this board, many have hearts as big or bigger.

MS does nothing sweet. JMO
