I have taken 4AP for 6 months. My doctor gave it to me to combat fatique. Since then I have found out it also helps with mobility. Yhe side effects are none other than a slight chance for siezures. This drug has given me back my life. It does not have the side effects that the other drug for fatique do. I take it twice a day at 7am and 2pm. It is not covered by insurance a must be purchased from a compounding pharmacy (they make the pills for you.) I had to have them change the filler from lactose to something else, I am lactose intolerant. It costs $32 a month and does not have a long shelf life. I hope this helps you.

4-AP is 4-aminopyridine, which has been used and sold through compounding pharmacies for approximately 20 years. It is currently being prepared to be marketed by Acorda Pharmaceuticals under the name Fampridine. So you can search those to get info.

I did well on it, for about 6-8 month, and yes it did help with mobility, however when I switched pharmacies that made it, I found that I developed an allergy to it. That still has not been confirmed as doctors are as baffled as I am. I'd like to go back on the drug to try it again, however I'm cautious as the allergic reaction was so severe it prompted an exacerbation.

My only warning is that when I got off of it, there was a hell of a kick back so I would definitely as your doctor if he can recommend a taper down. I wonder how many people had the same reaction that I did getting off of that thing, but it caused a severe pain in my legs and took a few days to be rid of.

I think it's a good drug though.

@DebbiePike - you found it for $32 a month? I was paying close to $75, can I ask what compounding pharm you use?

I have been using 4-AP for about 2 years. I have ran out of it two times and the withdrawal sx's were unbearable. Without it my walk is horrible. The FDA form is being investigated now to have it approved. The descion was actually to be decided today. I have yet to hear if it has passed---maybe tomorrow. Hopefully it will work even better than the 4-AP. If this does pass--I really should have bought stocks. My opinion,the company will bring in a lot of money.
