This weekend is my 5 year wedding anniversary. My husband (and many of my friends) are dead set on going to a George Clintion/P Funk concert. While that sounds awesome, I'm not sure if I'm up to it. I know I can sit down if I get too tired standing up but what is really worrying me is the lights and the noise. I'm still having trouble driving when there is light streaming through the trees. Makes it incredibly difficult to focus on the road. At this concert I'm sure there will be strobe lights and spot lights and colored lights and I'm fairly certain my brain might explode. Also, NOISE! Loud noise. I really want to go but I'm betting I spend the $40 on tickets and then want to leave after a few songs. I don't want to be the party pooper. Getting so sick of this thing controlling my life.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
Just saw Rob Zombie 2 weeks ago in Detroit! We had seats so I COULD sit if I needed to =) eeek!! Hope you can make it!! AND enjoy it!!!!
Take some sunglasses just in case the lights get too much, it will be dark in there so no one will notice if you put them on. Also sometimes having some earplugs or ear defenders can help with the noise problem, just get ones that you can still hear a few things through or you will miss out on the whole thing.
If you really don't think YOU are up to it, then don't push yourself. If you don't think you will be able to enjoy yourself, then is it really worth it?
Is there anyway you could look at a map of the venue, or contact them and ask if there are any seats that might not be affected by the strobe lights etc. as much? Does wearing sunglasses help with the light issues?
I hope that you are able to go and enjoy yourself, but if not, there's always another weekend, and perhaps a different concert.
At indoor concert venues I wear disposable earplugs. I get the kind that are foam that you roll in between your fingers and insert into your ears. You can get a big bag of them pretty cheap at Walgreens or CVS. Nobody can really tell I am wearing them and it's not like I care what anyone else thinks anyway. The music is so loud that I hear the concert just fine even with the earplugs in. At outdoor shows I find that I don't need the earplugs. Strange.
I don't know what you are experiencing with the light so I don't know what to suggest for that other than to say that you are not driving when you are at the show and don't really have a responsibility to concentrate on anything in particular so maybe it won't be so bad for you. You don't have to look at the stage the whole time either. When I am at a lot of concerts, I find myself looking around at the crowd and people watching or walking around the venue.
Perhaps you can talk to your husband and agree that if it is too much for you to handle that you both leave. You and your husband could drive separately from the rest of the group which should make it easier to make a quick exit if need be. You can always meet up with everyone else after the show if you leave early.
Hopefully, you will be able to take a ride on the Mothership with Dr. Funkenstein. if you haven't seen them before, you won't be disappointed. I saw them with Bootsy in the 90's. Paid a heck of a lot more than $40 then. Good luck.
But make a plan with your husband that you can leave if things get too funky for you. This is your anniversary (and Congrats!) and so if you don't feel good, make sure that you have a way out. Go because you may remember it as a great memory and you may have a great time. I wish you the best of luck. Conserve your energy. When I go out, I have to save up on energy.
Best of luck to you.
