It's been awhile since I wrote anything. Today I called my neurologist to let him know that the Gabapentin is not working for the pain in my left hand. I've been taking 2 100mg tablets 3x a day. Not helping. He's sending me in for lab work to test my liver function (Rebif) and something else. Not sure what else he's looking at but after he gets the results he said he would decide what else I should try for the pain. I can hardly stand it anymore. I type all day long so you can imagine how difficult this is for me.
Also, slipped in the hallway the other day and fell. I landed on a space heater and busted the base in 3 places. All I got out of it was a BIG bruise on my butt and a sore arm. I blame it on the socks I was wearing but who knows. I've always been clumsy but I'm even more clumsy now :)
I won't even get started on the fatigue. Besides my hand, the fatigue is my biggest problem. I hate it!!! I feel like a shell of my former self and I want the old me back. Not gonna happen, huh?
Anyway, as for the nerve pain....any suggestions? What works for you? Thank you

For nerve pain, I take Lyrica. I tried to stop taking this medication once, didn't think it was doing much. Boy, was I wrong. Within the third day off this medication I brought it back and noticed a significant difference.
Having MS, I don't think you will ever have the ol you back, sorry. Don't mean to sound like a downer, just think it is the truth. Good luck dealing with all that you got going. Remember, you are your best health advocate. Pain comes to all of us, suffering is optional.
If you have Terminal Neuralgia (TN) pain it can get pretty bad. If you can't find any meds to help, then they can block the nerve or cut it to get rid of the pain for good. However, this is a last option as it leaves you unable to feel parts of your face.
Malpractice has made many docs afraid to prescribe some of these meds so ask to be referred to a pain specialist.

At this point I'm going to wait and see what the neurologist says after my blood work is done. This is actually a new neuro (new to me) since my other one up and moved out of state. I know someone who sees this neuro and really likes him. My old neuro had mentioned to me that if the Gabapentin didn't work that Cymbalta has had some good results and not only does it provide nerve pain relief but it's also an anti-depressant.
I'll let you guys know in about 10 days what the neuro and I decide. Right now I have to wean off the Gabapentin.

I've read some good things about Lyrica so I'm praying that it helps me!
