Good Luck with disability, if you get turned down don't give up. I has and people I have talked too, I got an lawyer and still waiting :( so you were working part time and ON disability? I wish they will not turn us down so fast.

Some states almost always turn everyone down the first time. I think they want to see how serious you are. ( my opinion ) in any case, get copies of your medical records. Ask your doctor to write a letter explaining the reason behind your need to be on disability and in his/her opinion why you can no longer work.

The more information you have the better. I was turned down the first time and I got a lawyer. The Social Security paid him out of the money I was due. ( they back date your award from when you first became disabled )

Have your doctor support you--that is important. That was the key for me. Apply for disability, list all your symptoms. If you get denied the 1st time, get an attorney and follow-up all w/ Soc Sec. Best of luck.

I had spoke with my doctor who said he would support my filing, I was in the middle of a major flair at the time. I got a lawyer from the start, a on line companies, spoke with them on the phone, felt comfortable with them handling my case, they pretty much did everything, I was approved on the initial filing.

Thanks guys. Did you have to see one of their Dr's? I'm going to be moving out of state in the middle of the process, I'm sure that will give them a reason to make things even harder.

My family Dr who I've been with for 13yrs has been telling me it's time but my neuro is giving me a hard time. I only see her once a year so she has no idea how bad it gets. I loved my job but I couldn't handle it anymore. The government sure is willing to take our money but they make it almost impossible to get it back:(

You have to have your dr.s on your side. I was turned down then I turned it over to a lawyer. My lawyer was great. She took care of everything from then on. She filed my appeal and after being turned down again, she filed and showed up with me to my hearing. Then I was awarded. I just kept her up to date on dr.s visits and any testing I had to do. You can get a lawyer that only gets payed if you win, and is payed out of your award that goes back to the day you filed. I believe the lawyer takes a percentage but is capped at 5 or 6000 dollars. Good luck, get a lawyer if you are turned down and it is important that any medical problem is addressed by your dr. so it is in you medical history for SS.

Yes I did have to do some testing for SS. It wasn't much to it but it is still important to let you lawyer know.

I did not have to see one of their doctors, go to court as some have, it was settled based on the records submitted, I assume.

From their website you can print the forms you need - questions about your daily activities, what you can and can't do, and your work history. I saw one of their neuropsychologists for a cognitive test and must have done poorly enough, I was approved the first time. They paid for the neuropsych and my mileage.

My neuro wrote a letter, I sent him some words that SS likes to see, I think that came from either the SS or MS website. That was also helpful.
