back pain!

Anyone else get back pain? The right side of my body aches from my neck to my hip. I saw a massage therapist last wednesday and she said all the right side of my back was locked and tight. I had a remedial massage but it is still feeling the same. I am worrying it's an organ and not muscular skeletal but she specialises in the atlas and muscular skeletal alignment so she should know. But why hasn't it helped??

There are many types of back pain, many causes, many treatments. In MS, most common reason is due to gait impairment.

A massage therapist is the wrong person to get rid of your pain. You need to go to a 'back doctor' for a diagnosis and proceed from there. You need to research - my 1 recommendation is a physiatrist who treats back pain. Talk to your PCP.

I have a lot of problems with my back & neck. It started 10yrs before my dx. Some of it is ms related, muscle spasms & weird nerve pain. Last year I had a muscle spasm that lasted 2 weeks straight, even with physical therapy.
I also have spinal stenosis, osteoarthritis & bulging disks.
Have you had a recent MRI of your neck & thorasic area? What MS meds are you on?

I agree with Melanie on this one. The first step would be to talk to your PC physician.

There are many wrong roads to take in trying to relieve back pain.

Most back pain is in the Lumbar spine. 2nd on list is sacral. Not to much in Thoracic because that part is supported by our ribs.

Most likely a Lumbar MRI will need to be done.

Physiatrist try to alleviate with exercises and steroid injection primarily. Chiropractors through diet and manipulation. Pain management anesthesiologist with drugs, injections, and other procedures, nerve stimulators and pain pumps. Surgeons with cutting. Acupuncture sometimes helps as well but it didn't me.

I suffer from knee, leg and feet pain. My pain mgmt. doc ordered a lumbar MRI because X-rays of knees and back showed nothing. She said back problems could be causing my pain so she's exploring. Back problems seem to lead to all kinds of problems, not necessarily only back pain.
