Multiple Personalities Support Group
Dissociative identity disorder is a diagnosis described as the existence in an individual of two or more distinct identities or personalities, each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment. At least two of these personalities are considered to routinely take control of the individual's behavior, and there is also some associated memory loss,...
The biggest changes are in my facial features and in my posture,
During switching i glaze off and stare into the depths, seem/am scared/confused. Or i act abrupt, as in i suddenly do something different like walk out of the room or say something unexpected/unrelated.
First I thought, well yeah, clothing is different... and that led to posture IN the clothing being different, and on and on. So yep, I guess there are changes. When I told my mom's bfriend (he was wonderfully supportive) about my DID, he immediately remembered a time he was here when he had felt I was "different," and now that he knew, it made complete sense to him. He said he could see it in my eyes, but couldn't say exactly what the difference was.
Once my teenage Goth girl Tia was out because she wanted to make sure we went to the Halloween store for "new clothes." *rolls eyes, laughing.* She tried to find something for my little one while we were there, but nothing seemed right, so she bought an ice cream on the way out. Of course, she still had to drive home, but she thought Pru would eat while she drove.... Pru wouldn't come out, so Tia tried to eat it herself, and found she had no interest in it whatsoever. The ice cream went to waste - something unheard of in this household. It was the first time I realized they truly had different tastes.
I have looked at myself in the mirror and been mildly shocked, as I saw an expression I was not expecting. My food preferences change sometimes, ie: usually around this time of year I'm going nuts with eating chocolate, chocolate, cereal, and more chocolate....I don't even have any cereal in the cupboard right now, nor the usual anxiety I feel that I must get more, NOW!!
I dress fairly generically, so I don't think there's much difference in the wardrobe. I am prettyy good at feathering the changes though, (I think) and I've not heard anyone tell me they've seen or heard any difference. Except once, my daughter asked me why my voice is different, and I told her, that it was because I was tired. (which is kinda true, because that's why I had switched) and also once, in a Bible study group, one lady (with obvious troubles herself) asked me how I was doing with my demons??? (ok, that one took me off-guard)...I asked her what she meant, and she said because she's heard my voice change. Hmmmm....I hadn't noticed.
But I also know there are three or four that seemlessly switch throughout the day, depending on what chore or activity we're doing at the moment, what's on TV, etc. so others are probably more aware of it than I am.
I don't think a lot of my alters need glasses to see...I think most of them have 20/20 vision. But, I'm not 100% sure on that one. Also, one of my alters is like 80 years old...of course she has ailments that I don't have!!!! Like the shakes!! I don't have that...not even when I have a lot of caffeine...I also don't have wrinkly skin...which she does....I know for a fact that she wears glasses!!!
But along with everyone else...I have the usual as well. Voice, posture, spelling, attitude....different natures.
some of us have fibromyalgia, others dont. For some alters our asthma is much worse. One of us is deaf on our right ear too.
Jake and innerdialogue, I also have a deaf mute alter.Apparently somewhere in my past I learned a bit of sign language because this alter came out one day and was signing to my husband and he was like what?My husband wrote to her on a piece of paper"You are gonna have to write this down because I don't know how to sign or what you are saying".
